First week : Discovering Opportunities
Use the case provided in Module 1, as well as the knowledge and skills gained from all the courses in the
specialization, to answer the following questions.
Detailed instructions appear with each part of the assignment in the My Submission tab.
Part 1
You have learned that immersion in the user experience is a critical first step in finding opportunities. What is your
plan for learning about ways to move the business forward? Detail what you would want your teams to learn, whom
you want them to learn it from, and where they would go to learn it.
Part 2
You’ve learned that prototyping is an excellent method of supporting rapid learning and innovation. Why might this
be, and how could you encourage prototyping at OtoTechnic across all departments? Make sure your answer
includes why you feel prototyping is important and give 1 example of a type of prototype that could be created from
3 different departments (for example, marketing & communications, facilities management, human resources,
engineering, research & development, production, and others). You should have a total of 3 examples of prototypes,
each one from a different department. What kinds of things could be learned from these prototypes?
Part 3
How would you ensure your understanding of the issues facing OtoTechnic is grounded in deep insights? Name 3
research methods you might encourage teams to use in exploring possibilities. Be specific and justify your answers.
Part 4
Leadership often means asking great questions rather than having all the answers. Use what you know so far from
the OtoTechnic case study to formulate at least 25 “How Might We” questions you could use as springboards for
ideation with your teams across various areas of the business.
Second week: Defining and Taking Advantage of Opportunities
Use the case provided in Module 1, as well as the knowledge and skills gained from all the courses in the
specialization, to answer the following questions.
Detailed instructions appear with each part of the assignment in the My Submission tab.
Part 1
Of all the opportunities identified in the previous assessments (the 25 “How Might We” Questions in Module 3, the
prototypes in Module 3, and/or the storyboards in Module 2), which are the most attractive? Choose the top 3 most
attractive opportunities.
Part 2
What aspects of the culture at OtoTechnic make some opportunities more attractive than others? Describe at least 3
aspects that make the opportunities you chose more attractive than others.
Part 3
What data should you consider in making your decision? Name at least 3 types of data you will need to consider
and a justification for why you would need that data.
Part 4
Considering all these factors, which opportunity should be your highest priority and why?
Part 5
What value proposition would you recommend for that opportunity and why?
Part 6
Consider the three types of teamwork and describe the type of team that will work best to address the highest
priority opportunity you’ve defined and why.
Part 7
Describe the qualities that team must have in order to be successful. Name at least 3 qualities.
Part 8
What might you do to unleash the potential of your team to be successful? Name at least 2 things that you could do
and why.
Part 9
Given your knowledge of decision-making biases and the effects, advise the team about processes that may hinder
their decision-making. Identify 2 or 3 effects or biases the team may encounter as they pursue this opportunity.
third week : Communicating with Your Audience
Use the case provided in Module 1, as well as the knowledge and skills gained from all the courses in the
specialization, to answer the following questions.
Detailed instructions appear with each part of the assignment in the My Submission tab.
part 1
Now that you have determined your primary opportunity, who might need to be persuaded? That is, identify the
target audiences and why they are targets. Be sure to first state what your primary opportunity is, then identify the
target audiences, and finally why you chose them. You should have a minimum 3 audiences, however, you may
have many more.
Part 2
Rank those audiences in order of importance, with 1 being the most important audience that needs to be persuaded.
Write a brief justification for your ranking.
Part 3
What does each target audience need to be persuaded about?
Part 4
Identify the primary barrier/challenge you need to address for each target audience.
Part 5
What strategies might you consider for addressing each barrier you have identified?
fourth week : Crisis Response
In your third week on the job, you learn that a woman wearing a hearing aid made by one of your competitors was
hit by a car. The car beeped while backing up, but it was discovered at the hospital that the hearing aid wasn’t
working, even though the device showed that it was. The media picked up on this story. In the media attention to
this story – and many people coming forward to state that they have had similar problems with hearing aids being on
but not working, a newspaper from Chicago uncovers a group of patients who have concerns that radiation patients
wearing hearing aids may be susceptible to further damage from the treatments. The media looks poised to pick up
the second story and roll it into the first to go viral.
Use the case provided in Module 1, the scenario above, and the knowledge and skills gained from all the courses in
the specialization, to answer the following questions.

Part 2
In order of importance/influence (with most important being listed first), which audiences have to hear your story
about the crisis? Why did you choose that order?
Part 3
As surrogate for those audiences, what questions will you ask management? Identify at least 3-4 questions.
Part 4
Assume you have all the answers you can get, what story will you tell?
Part 5
What channel will you use to deliver the story to your key audiences? Justify why you are using that channel over
other possible channels.
Part 6
Boil the story down to 3-5 brief talking points – the points you want your audiences to remember/believe.
fifth week : Leading People and Fostering Collaboration
Use the case provided in Module 1, as well as the knowledge and skills gained from all the courses in the
specialization, to answer the following questions.
Detailed instructions appear with each part of the assignment in the My Submission tab.
Part 1
Think about the disagreement between the Manager of Corporate Affairs and the Vice President of Finance.
Consider the parties’ power, rights and interests arguments the individuals could make in this situation. For each
person involved, identify at least 1 example of a power, rights and interests argument that the individual could make
related to the company’s mission to help people with disabilities.
Part 2
In this same situation what strategy should the VP of Finance and Manager of Corporate Affairs use to separate
people from the problem and have a productive negotiation?
Part 3
We know that conflict is a sign of high performance. Following this interaction, which was a bit nasty, it seems that a
discussion on optimizing conflict would also be appropriate. Write the script of what you would say to these
individuals. Be sure to distinguish the two types of conflict and how it affects performance.
Part 4
After the discussion with the head of human resources, you realize that you need to make a plan to deal with the
recent employee survey and general unhappiness in the office. Be sure that your plan includes a justification for
your efforts by highlighting the key determinants of happiness and the business case for happiness, in addition to at
least 3 specific things that you would do to increase happiness.
Part 5
Given what you know about Ototechnic, identify at least 3 barriers to your success as a leader and the
implementation of your priorities. Provide a justification as to why each is a barrier to your success.
Part 6
Using what you’ve learned from all five courses, what are some techniques that you might use to overcome those
barriers you outlined in the previous question?
