What impacts does the intermodal transportation present on the environment? Despite the
fact the organizations responsible for the management of the intermodal transport and shipment
activities are involved in the sustainability of the environment, there still exists some
inconveniences. The intermodal transportation organizations are responsible for air pollution,
noise, congestion in the transports industries, and energy consumption among other impacts on
the environment. Additionally, the intermodal means of transport could result in seriously fatal
accidents in the environment, whether by road and rail or road and ship. However, there exists a
variety of ways by which the system could reduce the number of negative impacts it causes in
the environment. For one, the systems could choose to reduce the number of transportation
shifts, and thus saving on time, energy, and cost of transportation.
