The Movie Schindlers List Assignment | Online Homework Help

watch the movie Schindlers list and write an essay on the things the assignment says needs to be done

The format of your paper is largely up to you…but…you must include at least two (2) of
the following:
What are the important symbols in the movie, i.e. race, gender, social class, cultural
norms, etc.?
Are their examples of “magical thinking”,? i.e. characters act or believe based on
objects/events that are close to them or traditions that they already seem to buy into
before they confront a problem.
Chomsky propaganda as information: the propaganda model. Discussion of heroes,
archetypes, universal cultural themes.
In what way does the movie confirm present-day cultural values? Does it exaggerate
examples or counterexamples of these? Which ones?
How “realistic” are the characters? Are they almost mythical or possible? What does this
mean?
What “education” happens in the movie? That is how do characters make their
voice/opinions known? Are a character’s feelings/actions likely in line with his identity, or
does he do/say contradictory things?
What present-day cultural events/concerns are emphasized in the movie? Give
examples from actual events or trends.
Argue the opposite of your own opinion/interpretations. What might someone say who
experiences the movie very differently than you?
The most successful papers will discuss more than 2 of the above and use terms,
concepts from the course…and will have a clearly defined theme. PLEASE DO NOT
include long plot summaries. I have seen all of these movies so filling space with details
that do not support your arguments is unnecessary. Below you will find a sample outline
and suggestions to get you started. You can use as many or as few as you want.
Sample Outline
Note: The answers to these questions will
almost always fall on a continuum, i.e. decisions or actions that appear to be “black and
white” are the results of weighing some aspect over another. For example a character
may choose to stay or leave… a place or culture, but that is a value judgment. For
example, a particular group or culture is rarely absolutely evil, something makes them
desirable or they would have no members: Aristotle’s golden mean.
Sources of Reality, Meaning and Truth Culture and Context
What are the rules of society or culture?
What factors determine the “truth” about values and expectations?
Who has power? Is it legitimate?
How do you, as an audience member, react to the characters?
What is the social “good”, the goals and expectations which guide the characters? Is
membership in a group important?
What are the goals that guide the characters, and what effect do these have on other
characters or the community as a whole?
Identity and Personal Journey…Moral and Ethical Context
Characters are defined by a set of traits and they are a struggle in which they must
either change or strive to keep what they have, in the end, they succeed or fail.
What does the character value, i.e. the constructs or judgments that define his world
and sense of self?
Which are the result of determinism, that which is not a matter of choices such as
gender and social class?
What characteristics and values result from choices and actions, i.e. free will? The
Struggle to Change or Evolve or Preserve
What is the source of the conflict or struggle, and is it between individuals, groups, or an
entire community?
What can be gained or lost and why is that important? Which theory of Justice or
Morality best explains this?
Result of the Struggle
What has been achieved or lost, what or who has changed? Note there can not be one
without the other.
Is the change permanent or part of an ongoing process?
Large Scale Meaning: The Movie, Book, or Artwork as a Context.
(Start with the general and work toward the particular)
Describe the Universal Themes, i.e. political, social, personal, or cultural. What
particular dimensions are important, i.e. freedom, loyalty, identity, role, choice, truth?
How are these judgments defined, for example, is Truth the result of choice, or
discovery or the loyalty and goodwill of others?
As a member of the audience, or the reader, what have you learned? What was the
emotional experience?
What particular values do YOU use that have to lead to your conclusion? Consider that
your reaction is not the only possible reaction. For example, you may be unmoved by an
honorable action in the context of the military because you feel the military as a whole is
based on values and goals that you find disagreeable. You may feel that your gender
has not been represented or that the struggle and reality depicted is so far from your
experience that it had little to no meaning
