SWOTS

SWOT analysis involves the collection and portrayal of information about internal and external factors, which have, or may have, an impact on business.

SWOT is a framework that allows one to synthesize insights obtained from an internal analysis of the company’s strengths and weaknesses with those from an analysis of external opportunities and threats.

WORD Document

This is the SWOTS analysis paper of the final project. (Microsoft Word)

Using the SWOTS analysis process conduct research using Internet and library articles to seek out strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and solutions surrounding a technology and its applications to your career choice. E.G. “Body Worn Cameras and Public Safety” “Fitness and Health Wearables/Trackers and the Healthcare Industry” “GPS monitoring and Prison Recidivism”

Checklist:

  • Minimumof five references. (MLA/APA use the Reference tab in MS Word)
  • The Word doc table of contents follow with the SWOTS
  • Cover page- Name, Topic, Date, Course etc.
  • Intro: Write a healthy Paragraph that introduces the project topic.
  • Strengths: (minimum 6 meaningful bullets)Bullet form
  • Weaknesses: (minimum 6 meaningful bullets)Bullet form
  • Opportunities: (minimum 6 meaningful bullets) Bullet form
  • Threats: (minimum 6 meaningful bullets) Bullet form
  • Solutions:(minimum 3 meaningful bullets) Bullet form
  • Conclusion:  Wrap up your paper in a meaningful paragraph. What did you learn? What is the future of your technology landscape look like?
  • Last Page: Bibliography

As you collect references, add them to the word doc and then insert the bibliography into the end of the paper.

Use the references TAB in MS Word to insert a reference page. Be sure to include references for your data sources. (From excel)

INSERT BIBLIOGRAPGHY AT THE END OF THE PAPER

POWERPOINT

The PowerPoint file will require the following slides: (Do NOT forget to incorporate thecharts from the Excel data spreadsheet to get full credit.)

Slides: (this is template you may add as many slides as needed to fill out the presentation to explore all your data points) Minimum 50 Slides

  • Introduction Slides: Name, Date, Topic, Course, etc.
  • Topic Slides: Explain the topic to the audience (intro information from the word doc)Tell a story with your words and your visual aids.ß A well delivered story is key to an “A” paper.
  • Strengths Slides: Create strong slides that describe the strengths you discovered in your research.
  • Weakness Slides: Create strong slides that describe the weaknesses you discovered in your research.
  • Opportunities Slides: Create strong slides that describe the opportunities you discovered in your research.
  • Threats Slides: Create strong slides that describe the threats you discovered in your research.
  • Solution slide(s): Create strong slides that describe the solutions you discovered in your research and personally believe are true.
  • Conclusion slide(s): Create strong slides that wrap up your presentation. Focus on what you learned and the future your tech promises.

I expect 50 slides at minimum for this to be a strong presentation. Use visual aids and your Datacharts from excel. Explain your charts from excel do NOT just place them into the presentation.

You can also use infographics or make your own. (Remember to cite your sources and give photo credits)

EXCEL

You are to collect 5 data sources and enter them into excel. From this data create data charts. These should fit nicely into your story line to describe the meaningfulness of the technology. Data can strongly support your position. Use data to describe some of the elements of your SWOTS process. Examples include:

  • Business Statistics (annual sales, product production)
  • Populations (race, ethnicity, gender, etc.)
  • Crime Data
  • Census Data (deaths, births)
  • Security Data (network traffic, incident response, breaches)
  • Technology Data (Performance, cost, adoption)
  • Create five charts from five data sources/references you found during your research.
  • Confirm 5 charts and 5 sources.
  • Use ONLYone Excel workbook and create FIVE separate worksheet tabs.Illustrate what you learned from the excel labs.
  • Label every chart –Title, Axis Titles, Series Labels, and Data Labels.
  • Format your raw data. Each data table needs to stand-alone. I need to know where the data came from and what it represents. Simulate the labs. (Provide links to data sources.)
  • The projection chart must show a percentage increase/growth and include the absolute function $alpha$ that you learned in class and in the excel labs. Reference the lab in class.NoteàI will accept other methods/use cases other than projection. If you want to use it differently that’s okay but it must use the absolute cell reference.

The required worksheetsin ONE Workbook are:

  • Worksheet 1: Using Data source #1 demonstrate the functions of Min, Max, Median and Average then create a chart. Use the Formula for each function. Do not use mathematic operators to accomplish this requirement. You are to demonstrate the functions you learned in class and in the excel labs. Use any chart type.Hint àYou may alter your data to show an example of mode that yields a value.
  • Worksheet 2: Using Data source #2 demonstrate illustrating data as a Pie chart. Keep in mind the best data for a Pie chart is data that represents parts of a whole. (Typically totaling 100%)  HINT: Survey data makes great pie charts. Then: In your source data, demonstrate CountIF.
  • Worksheet 3: Using Data source #3 demonstrate illustrating data as a Bar chart.  Then: In your source data, insert a data bar to visualize values.

HINT: Data bars from the conditional formatting lab.

  • Worksheet 4: Using Data source #4 demonstrate illustrating data as a Line chart. Then: In your source data, demonstrate the use of spark lines.
  • Worksheet5: Create a projection line chart. Show a percentage growth in your data. You must use absolute cell reference. This can be a negative or positive growth. HINT: This is demonstrating how to make a cell “sticky”. You can illustrate this many ways but remember the example in class.

Again Noteà I will accept other ABR use cases other than projection if you want to use it differently. I just want to see you use the concept and illustrate it in an example that uses the fill handle to copy the cells. Be creative.
