Essay #2
Broken Legs
A dark day in your life, you were going on the road with your brother and mother to your
hometown San Cristobal, Venezuela. Your dad wasn’t there, instead someone strange was
driving. Your mom had recently got a new driver, this guy was weird sometimes. In the car,
there was your younger brother, mother, driver, and your beloved dalmatian, Manchas. You
loved this dog so much, because he made you happy when you were alone. Anyways, you were
always a very active kid, always picking up the balls from baseball practices and running around
to ask a question. In fact, you could not stop fighting your brother when you were in the car with
him, to the point that mom had to put you in the front seat with her. At some point of the trip,
you were so excited to get home that you jumped to the front seat, and you couldn’t stop saying
“How long until we get there”.
All suddenly everything went dark, you could not see anything or hear anything, you
were wondering why you had so many pieces of broken glass in your face and why you could
not see your family. You were wondering if this was a dream or a nightmare. Everything
happened so quickly and there was there was you in the hospital, realizing that you were in car
accident and that you almost lost your life. If there wasn’t for this miracle three then you
wouldn’t have survived this tragical accident. After you realized that both of your legs were
fractured, you cry in your dad’s shoulder. You were scared, sad but most of all shock with
everything that happened that day.
When you opened your eyes at the hospital, you were very lost and saw a blurry image of
an old guy with white hair. This guy was your doctor, he asked you, how are you feeling?” You
didn’t say much but you were asking for your brother and mother. They told you that they were
okay and that everything was going to be fine. After a few days, you realized that your brother
had minimal damage from the
accident, obviously, he was in the back like a good kid. Your
mom fractured her knee and was getting better day by day. A few weeks passed, and you were
allowed to go home with your family, but only now with the horrible feeling of not being able to
walk. Your broken legs needed a long time to heal. At least your family was there to help you get
through this. Luckily, this happened during the summer, so you didn’t have to worry about
school. When school started, all your classmates were moved to a classroom on the first floor
and all of this because of your broken legs.
What to wear to go out.
Going out requires you to think about what you are going to wear. Where are you going? Somewhere nice or maybe you are going to the gym. As a guy you have to think about all the different
combinations of things you can wear. Going to a club you probably are not going to dress like you ae going to a wedding.
Going to a wedding you have to make many decisions on what to wear. Is the wedding outside? Is the weather hot or cold? How long do you have to be there? These are all things that you have to
take into consideration when picking out what you want to wear.
If you’re a guy, there is not always to much to think about. You are going to put on dress shoes and slacks of some sort of a dress shirt. The only thing that you need to take into consideration
if it is going to be uncomfortable wearing a sports coat or a suit jacket. You have to think about that all the time.
Not being a girl there are things that only they know to think about. You have to consider your shoes and are your heels going to sink into whatever the surface you are walking on. Also is
that dress going to get caught in your shoes? This is all things you have seen happen before so keep that in mind for yourself. Is that dress going to keep you warm enough at the reception? Think
about what you need to bring with you.
Trying to decide what to wear is not an easy thing to do always so take the time you need to figure that out. Don’t wait till the day of the event try figuring out what you want to wear the day
before.
All About You Dinah Lenney – A Flash Nonfiction Exercise
Hiking is one of my hobbies and I will go hiking whenever I have time. When I was thirteen years old, my old friend, Tom and I, prepared to go and hike and got our gear together. We strolled for
around twenty minutes and came to the famous hiking place across the state known for its scenery and big rocks. Tom was narrating to me a story about his classmate who held divergent views
regarding hiking. He said that the classmate viewed it as a dangerous activity, regardless of time and place. The story became more real when we spotted a lonely man sitting under a tree. From
far, he seemed disturbed, which was captured by his undone hair, untidy clothes, and dirty hands. Tom, told me that it was likely he was a drug addict, and we should take another route up the
scenery
We continued to argue for a few moments where we concluded that we should go on with our hiking. Tom said, Let us go on with our business, we cannot miss this.” He added, Let him rest and
he will find his way home or somewhere.” I remember nodding in agreement, but strongly felt the hiking is already affected. I said, Let us go.” Tom realized that I was not very free when saying
it, and he told me all would be okay. We hiked the whole of the afternoon, and Tom kept trying to make me forget the earlier incident. I was not taking notice of the rocks, the birds, the giant
shrubs, and winding paths. I suggested that we should head back, and come another day. Tom suggested that we can trace our way back, which made me feel better.
After going down the scenery, we arrived at the place we had spotted the disturbed man. Tom was the first to realize a lifeless body hanging on a tree, and a closer look indicated that the man we
had left had taken away his life. Tom looked at me with regretful eyes as I shed a tear. He said, Let us leave and call the police.” We called and gave the officers the information and left for home.
It was a difficult journey to walk home feeling the weight of the man that had just lost his life. We felt responsible, but Tom seemed stronger and kept saying, “He looked dangerous, and there is
nothing we could have done to help him.” His consolations did not make me feel better. From that day, whenever I see people who seem disturbed, such as the homeless people. I always
remember that event, and hope that they will not harm themselves if I am unable to help them. The sight of disturbed people is an image that lingers in my mind for long, and reminds me of one of
the worst days of my life. It has affected the way I hike, as I sometimes remember the events of that fateful day.
