SCS 285 Ashford University Homelessness Since COVID 19 Pandemic Research In this assignment, include the following:
Select Research Studies
First, you will need to make sure your research studies represent a variety of research methodology types in order to ensure that you have enough research to draw from to craft your complex research question in Project Three, which you will submit in Module Eight. In addition, to make sure you have enough information to evaluate the data-collection types in your Project Two in Module Six, you will need to complete the following:
Select two research studies that utilize each methodology type (Quantitative, Quantitative, or mixed as in both types) and explore your chosen research problem (six in total).
RESEARCH PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!—- Homelessness increasing due to COVID-19
Note: You only need to submit the APA reference-page citation for each study you will use.
Data-Collection Patterns
Now that you have conducted your preliminary research and chosen the research studies you will use to help craft your research question, you will need to evaluate each of your research studies to determine patterns in data-collection types. Determining patterns in data-collection types now will help you identify and analyze how these types impact potential threats to the credibility of your research, as well as the relevance of data-collection types to the research questions you will explore in Project Two in Module Six. As you consider the types of data included in each of your studies, answer the following:
What data-collection patterns do you notice?
Are there some data-collection types that seem to be used more in your area of study in the social sciences?
What about the other social sciences?
Why do you think that is?
How can using certain data-collection types more than others create a threat to credibility?
Purpose of Varied Data Collection
Finally, in Project Two in Module Six, you will analyze data-collection types to explore the benefits and drawbacks of the choices the researchers made in your selected studies, and the choices of researchers in anthropology, political science, human services, and criminal justice in the social sciences. As you consider data-collection types, answer each of the following:
What are the benefits of multiple data-collection types?
What are the drawbacks of multiple data-collection types?
What is the link between varied data collection and credibility risks?
What are some common types of data collection used in each of the social sciences?
Why do you think certain social sciences seem to favor particular types of data collection over others?
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
Select data-collection types in selected research studies
Explore patterns in data collection to identify and analyze their impact on potential threats to credibility
Examine common data-collection types in social sciences
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION:
This assignment must be completed in a written format and should be 1–2 pages in length. Any references should be cited in APA format

Describe the Relationship
It is not known how or to what extent homelessness has increased since the COVID-19
outbreak. Homelessness relates to human services as well as to the job I currently have at the
Department of Social Services as an Employment Resource Specialist. My job is to provide
government assistance to those in need, which does include the homeless population. Because
the pandemic made it difficult for people to work and receive adequate income, it is possible
some people began to fail to pay for things like rent, leaving them homeless. I am interested to
see what research has been done in regard to what I think may be a difficult subject to obtain
accurate information on.
Methodology Trends
Studies are showing quantitative and a qualitative data trends when researching the
impact COVID-19 had on the increase in homelessness. The Los Angeles Times reports studies
are showing a potential 45% rise in homeless in the United States due to the pandemic (Oreskes
2020). Studies can show if there has been an increase or decrease in homelessness using
statistical evidence, which coincides with quantitative data. The article includes countable data in
regard to how many people could be without permanent shelter compared with those who are
already homeless. The qualitative data represented in the studies provides a descriptive narrative
of COVID- 19 itself and its effects on the population of the United States. Both quantitative and
qualitative data is apparent in studies regarding how COVID-19 has effected homelessness,
therefore a mixed methodology approach will be best in identifying a research question.
Overcome Challenges
Finding limited research study methods would limit the research questions I could ask
because I cannot base my question off of information not provided. There will be less questions
to ask if less methods are represented in research studies. The research problem I chose does not
seem to be a problem when finding a type of methodology, however if that were the case, I
would have to adjust my research problem. I could still use the research problem, however
looking at it from a different angle may open the door for more methodologies to be present in
the research already performed on the subject.
