Assess leadership strategies, perspectives, and theories.
Apply a leadership theory to an administrative scenario.

One of the main purposes of this course is to examine leadership theories, approaches, and perspectives and then learn to apply them effectively. In this assignment you will explain and apply the leadership approach you selected in Leadership Theory Research Paper. It is impossible for every person to read every article or book, listen to every speaker, or watch every video about leadership. To maximize the number of leadership perspectives you learn this week, this assignment uses a strategy called Each Teach.

According to research about adult learning principles, a person can gain a deeper insight (Konigs, 2003, p. 238) into a concept when he/she teaches it to others. The principle of learning through teaching was researched and supported by Jean-Pol Martin in the 1980’s, leading to a strategy called Each Teach. In an Each Teach learning experience, each student researches a leadership theory and is responsible for teaching it to classmates.

Research a leadership theory you have selected (or been assigned).
Write a 1 page document teaching your selected leadership approach to your classmates. Your teaching document must include the following:

An annotation (see information about an annotated bibliography). An annotation includes:
A statement about the main topic (your leadership approach)
A summary that includes key points, strategies, techniques, key concepts, or other information you found interesting or important.
Discuss and assess the practical usefulness or application of the theory. For example, describe a practical example of the use of this theory, or, use an example you found during your research. Note: Your teaching document may include images, charts, graphs, videos, links, etc. An example is provided here.

This article emphasizes the need for more interpretive reporting of accounting
principles. The author proposes that the operating section of the income statement
include a classification of costs. He states that including this would provide “an
important measure of the effectiveness of the management” (Dixon, 1940, p. 220).
Why does a public administrator need to know this?
When creating or working within a budget an effective manager must understand
the relationship between the fixed and variable costs. The public administrator must
be able to classify costs as fixed or variable, and then understand and manage the
variable costs for the organization to effectively plan services and employees and to
have a strong and successful organization.
This concept is important for both government and nonprofit and there are no
significant differences in how it is applied in either type of organization. Dixon
persuades the reader by carefully explaining why it is important to include a
classification of costs in the operating section of the income statement.
The article was published in 1940, yet the same principles apply today. Dixon’s
recommendations have proven to be relevant and accurate over the years.
The author demonstrates some bias towards the accounting field over the field of
public administration, but this bias does not seem to impede the application of the
concepts to the field of public administration.
