Plato’s Euthyphro Essay Explain each of the Euthyphro’s first three attempts to answer the question ‘what is piety?’, and what proves to be inadequate about each attempt. What do each of Euthyphro’s failures to adequately define piety tell us about what counts as ‘knowledge’? What does the conclusion of the dialogue (where might Euthyphro be going?) tell us about whether or not we care about truth?

Euthyphro first attempted was” the thing that he is doing which is prosecuting his father for killing someone”.

Euthyphro first attempted was bad because he gave just an one activity of piety and he didn’t gave definition for it or what make piety itself.

Euthyphro second attempted was” what is dear to the god is pious”.

Euthyphro second attempted was bad also but better then the first one because what if something that one of god love it and another god don’t like it. For example, Ra loves something but Zous doesn’t like it. Will it be piety or not.

Euthyphro third attempted was” Anything that all gods love it is pious and anything that they all hate is impious “.

This was best definition between the three, but Socrates asked him ” Do gods love it because it is pious? or It is pious because gods love it?”.

Euthyphro choosed “gods love it because it is pious” and that wasn’t the right definition for piety, so that he give up and give fake reason to leave.

If Euthyphro choose “It is pious because gods love it” he would reach the right definition for piety .
