PHI 2010 SFCC Retributive and Distributive Justice Discussion Original Question WASExplain, in your own words, the difference between retributive and distributive justice, giving an example of each. Then make an argument that links each type of justice to one or more of the four kinds of equality and/or one or more of the four concerns of justice. For example, you might argue that the principle of distributive justice helps a society achieve one or more of the four kinds of equality. (You are not limited to those choices!)I need a reply to thisAccording to the textbook, justice is divided into retributive and distributive. The retributive is where courts or the justice system gives a punishment based on the crime. Justice is served when the punishment fits the crime. For example, a harsh crime should have amore severe punishment than a minor crime. If a person is convicted of murder there punishment should be more severe than a person who is convicted of shoplifting. Regardless of a persons status in society, if they commit a crime their punishment should be the same as an ordinary person. So if hypothetically Bill Gates was convicted of murder, his punishment should be the same as if Sally Joe was convicted. Whereas distributive justice is the distribution of salaries, bonuses, education, and medical care for the public. Basically this is stating an individual who works hard, educates themselves and strives for success will be rewarded either through salary negotiations, better jobs, and bonuses.
