Recommendation Report Assignment Description

NOTE: Before beginning this assignment, study Chapter 18, focusing on understanding feasibility reports.

Students will work in a team of two or three students and use the divisions of work below to create a recommendation report following the instructions below. Team assignments will be posted early Saturday morning (the deadline for partner requests is Friday night). NOTE: Students may work independently outside of the classroom and will be encouraged to collaborate with their partners asynchronously via email or using a shared Google Doc. So, while this is a group project, it is structured in a way group interaction (beyond email) will not need to take place outside of class time.

When your draft/paper is complete, save as a PDF document to submit in Canvas. In Google Docs, click File / Download / PDF document (.pdf).

Select one of the three scenarios below to serve as the focus of your report:

Your company is considering purchasing a pickup truck for its employees to use for project site visits. Select two comparable pickup trucks, evaluate them against criteria you create and recommend one of them for company purchase.
Your company is considering purchasing a hybrid car to demonstrate its environmentally-friendliness to clients. Select two comparable hybrid cars, evaluate them against criteria you create and recommend one of them for company purchase.
Your company needs to purchase a large flat screen television for use in each of the company conference rooms to replace older existing models. Select two comparable flat screen televisions (size is your choice), evaluate them against criteria you create and recommend one of them for company purchase.

Prepare a 1,500-word to 1,700-word (maximum), single-spaced report, using 12-point Times New Roman font addressed to the appropriate officials at your (fictional) company recommending the company select one of the two products for business use.

The report must contain the following elements (page numbers are based on the print text but all this info can be found in the Recommendation Report chapter of your e-text):

Title Page matching the format on p. 492 of your text
APA format page headers with page numbers as reviewed in class
Table of Contents (see model on p. 494 and the Tech Tip that explains how on p. 484)
Two visual elements (decision matrix, graph, chart, photo) and/or List of Illustrations (but the list is only necessary if you use more than two visuals – all photos must be cited and must have captions). If you choose a photo as a visual element, it must be selected from photos with copyright permission as discussed in previous classes at mediacommons.psu.edu’s database.
Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion (conclusions are located here) and Recommendation sections reflecting p. 478-480
References (list any outside sources you reference in the report on this separate page – cite any material that is not original to you using APA format).

The report must address the following information in the correct section respectively, which is explored in the book and will be discussed in class, in the appropriate sections of the report:

statement of the problem or opportunity
criteria for responding to the problem or opportunity
descriptions of options (potential solutions)
discussion of each option according to the criteria
conclusions about the options
recommendations based on the conclusions
