A) Public Sector Leader in the News Essay
You will select a leader in the public sector that has an interview, or series of interviews
online, e.g. you tube, c-span website, or using other forms of evidence such as articles
written about the leader. You will analyze the statements that the leader makes during
the interview. This could also be a press conference or a public meeting, or a speech.
1) Identify a video of a particular speech, interview, etc. that the leader has online.
2) Analyze the content of the video for evidence of support or lack of support for ideas in
the course.
3) Write a four page essay explaining your analysis.
Team Crisis Project
This module contains many links to information about Covid-19.
I have created randomly assigned teams. Every student is now assigned to one of 10
teams.
The assignment is to apply Kotter’s 8 Steps of crisis leadership to the current Covid-19
crisis. For example, your team could create a city plan of action using the 8 steps. Or it
could create a national crisis response plan. It could focus on the a response from the
health sector, or it could focus on the economic impacts. There are many different
options.
I want to see every team working together to create crisis response plans for dealing
with the various aspects of the crisis. I also want you to make use of information
available on the crisis, such as case numbers, fatalities, unemployment numbers, etc.
Each team will create a power point presentation, which will include introductory slides,
concluding slides, and at least 8 slides for the 8 steps, one for each step. The teams will
create an audio overdub for each slide, and each team member will handle a certain
number of slides. It will probably be best to assign a leader to the team, who will
compile all the slides together into a single power point.
I also would like to see a slide evaluating the current response by a leader, e.g. Mayor,
University President, US President, etc.
