Mental health amongst teenagers is of great interest and  requires people and the government to pay attention to during this period of COVID-19 pandemic. Teenagers have been forced to follow routines that are new in their lives with the emergence of the deadly virus. The transition can cause psychological problems that can flourish into mental problems in teenagers. Mental health among teenagers is  an important topic that needs to be discussed and come up with solutions to prevent it during the COVID-19 pandemic (Lee, 2020). The article “How COVID-19 Impacts Teens’ Mental Health” by Nancy Maes is of great interest as it explores mental distress that teenagers are going through during the COVID19 pandemic.  It is vital in ensuring parents develop measures that enable teenagers to cope up with the COVID-19 pandemic. The article shows that many teenagers have been affected by COVID-19 negatively. This comes from the fact that their calendars have drastically changed and a good example from the article is Sanchez, who had to postpone his dance performance. Teenagers are enduring a stressful period of life resulting from restricted movements and socialization.

When discussing the mental health problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, parents are called upon to teach their teenagers on the need to accept the new life routines. This is vital as it will ensure that young adults are in the capacity to accept social distancing without been upset. Parents also need to allow teenagers to talk about what they feel concerning the pandemic. With this, parents will be in a position to recognize their teenagers who have been emotionally affected by the disease outbreak (Maes, 2020). From there, they can share with teenagers on the importance of staying at home as it helps in having the family together besides fighting the virus. When teenagers remain uninformed as to why they are being restricted from moving from one place to another, mental impairment has a high chance of hitting them. Therefore, parents are supposed to engage teenagers in alternative activities such as watching movies, playing games, and sharing stories (Maes, 2020). These activities will keep them occupied mentally and they will not think about the pandemic. In most cases, teenagers respond to a problem depending on how their parents have responded. This then calls for the parents to exhibit calmness and satisfied as they face this crisis. Showing how they have been freaked out by the pandemic will be obvious in the teenagers. Parents have to ensure teenagers do not watch news about COVID-19 repeatedly. News concerning the pandemic will create emotional distress to teenagers as the worry grows concerning the effects it poses.

My understanding of the article concerning mental health amongst teenagers has really caught attention and my understanding of how teenagers are vulnerable to getting negatively impacted by global problems even when we think they could handle things like this. I have also come to learn that teenagers are a key factor of the population that does not like the idea of continued confinement (Lee, 2020). In the stage of being a teenager, one is known to be more energetic, this is why teenagers are always active and mobile. Therefore, when teenagers are not allowed to walk and exercise, they can be driven to a point that leads them to mental health problems. Also, this topic has given me a better understanding of  teenagers and how they  need to be informed and aware about what is going on fully to understand the changes happening in their life. This is important to ensure that this is real life.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic teenagers should be made clear to sensitization. This is because sensitization contributes to social justice in which no part of the population is left behind (Maes, 2020). Sensitization of teenagers about the COVID-19 pandemic is part of human services. Teenagers need to be made aware of the pandemic so that they can adjust to the new guidelines and recommendations that are set by the government. With programs developed to ensure that they are informed about the pandemic, social justice will be promoted as they will not be discriminated against. Knowing the effects of the disease has played an instrumental role in ensuring teens stay at home and observes the social distancing guidelines willingly.

Within healthcare, mental health depending on each person is something that is emphasized in society. The topic is vital in exploring how teenagers are dragged into psychological problems due to the COVID-19 (Lee, 2020). To make sure  that every person in society is healthy, taking care of mental health is important as it plays an instrumental role in determining individual productivity. The article topic is of great importance as it shows what  should be done to prevent mental health problems in teenagers..

COVID-19 has created a devastating impact on the mental health of teenagers and the need for sensitization to accept the resulting life changes. Parents and governments have to explain to teenagers on the importance of social distancing. Positive impacts, such as bringing the family together, have to be emphasized through talking to teenagers during this hard time. With sensitization, teenagers will be in a better position of coping with the challenges from the virus. This will ensure teens maintain social distancing and isolation in their  homes without having to experience mental illness as they have full knowledge of the pandemic consequences.
