Mirus safety, health & wellbeing performance indicators
Executive Summary
This report aims to identify strengths and weaknesses of performance indicator collection
methods, as well as the robustness of indicators produced for informing and improving
safety, health and wellbeing (SHW) performance.
Mirus provided data on the following topics:
• Employee assistance programme (EAP)
• HR data – Including sickness and absence data
• Health and Safety (HS) Auditing
• Investors in People (IIP) report
• Staff surveys
Key strengths identified were the use of external companies, providing unbiased, valid and
reliable EAP and IIP indicators, this was also seen through the use of an online staff survey
platform. It was evident that internally collected data methods were carried out in a way
that reduced bias as best as reasonably practicable to produce robust data, this report
contains recommendations on how to maximise the accuracy and consistency of data.
There was also a strength in the range of indicators produced by Mirus, showing a
willingness to become correctly informed in order to improve.
The analysis of data was identified as a weakness throughout, with several non-uniformed
approaches. Mirus lacked a detailed and systematic breakdown of data, which could affect
the interpretation of data along with comparisons and the identification of areas to target
improvements.
There was an overall lack of internal data comparisons to inform the organisation of
progress, this was also seen with external benchmarks, with only two out of the five data
sets providing external comparisons.
The outcome of this report shows an organisation heading in the right direction with
improving SHW performance. Indicators were effective for informing and improving SHW
performance and sustainability, however, the addition of health promotion programmes is
recommended to produce proactive leading indicators on health and performance,
increasing prevention methods as opposed to reactive methods.
