Week 8- Final Project Assignment

Please develop a management plan for a nursing home, as if you are the administrator.  Think about how you would successfully operate the nursing home, remembering the administrator is responsible for the overall management.  The project will allow the student to bring together the components from the class discussions into a management plan.  The project should be done in two parts.  Part I will be overall organization information and Part II will be a management plan.

Part I:  Organization Information

This section should describe, in general, the overall nursing home industry. Components of this section could include the types of service provided, licensing requirements, staffing requirements, how the nursing home is regulated, survey requirements, funding options (such as Medicare, Medicaid) and the necessary requirements to participate in these funding options, and any other information that talks about the overall purpose of a nursing home.  This section should be completed using APA format.  Federal requirements will be consistent for each state, but state requirements may vary.  You may pull in information from your state, but please indicate which state you are referencing.

Part II:  Management Plan

Please outline your management plan as the nursing home administrator. This section is an overview at the administrative level. Components of this section could include:

Ø      Size of the nursing home (number of beds) and which state the nursing home is in

Ø      The overall governing structure (who does the administrator report to-is there a Board of Directors, an owner?)

Ø      The role of the administrator

Ø      Mission of your organization and How the organization will strategize

Ø      Organizational Chart and role of each area in the organizational chart

Ø      What are the levels of management and what is the role of each level (Who are the decision makers?)

Ø      Staffing requirements

Ø      How is the organization funded

Ø      Compliance Plan

Ø      Quality Plan

Ø      Being prepared for survey, how will correction plans be addressed

Ø      Communication Process

Ø      How will you determine if your organization is successful?

Ø      Any other components to describe your management plan
