Loma Linda University Technologies Involved in Looting Paper Please read the instructions before you start writing the paper. This is a group project and is divided into 6 students. My part is Technologies: Mark
• Surveillance tech
• Archeological sites/drones/cameras/satellite imaging/computer enhancement software
• Soil testing The topic of the whole Group project is “Looting”. The introduction has been written already by one of the students if you want to take a look at it. Please my topic is Technologies and I only need need 3 pages long, 4 references, and 2 pictures/figures. Do not write it as an easy please just straight explanation, examples. No introduction or conclusion is needed. just write straight 3 pages. Thanks 4 sources, 3 Pages written
Final Paper Group Proposal:
“Framed around the year 2026, the Nation’s 250th anniversary, NSF 2026 in turn launched the
NSF 2026 Idea Machine, a prize competition seeking compelling ideas for fundamental
research in science and engineering to be pursued in the coming years. The contest invited
entrants to describe an emerging science, engineering, or learning research challenge that they
thought should be addressed.
Please find the prompt for your Imagine Ancient Genomics (IAG) final paper proposal below:
Your IAG final project will be to apply several course concepts you have learned about ancient
genomics research to develop an ancient genomics sequencing project that does not exist
yet. This new ancient genome sequencing project can include the development of non-invasive
technology, the sequencing on human, human archaic hominins, and non-human organisms, or
the development of technologies and or policies to safeguard against the bone rush. If you have
additional ideas please run them by me before committing to them.
You will select a topic of interest based on the ancient genomics research you have been
exposed to over the quarter— Your general interest and enthusiasm will help you assemble
groups. Don’t be apprehensive— All of the ancient genomics projects in the past have been
derivative of previous projects, ideas, and concepts (e.g. we encourage you to borrow and
recombine ideas from the research you have been exposed to throughout the quarter). Your
“new” ancient genome sequencing project can (and should be) derivative of many of the
research projects we have discussed over the quarter. Assessment will be based on a
combination of individual and group work. You will have time each week in class to meet with
your groups.
IAG proposal specifications / requirements: Your final grand challenge group proposal
should be minimum 10 pages in length, double spaced, 1-inch margins, you must include at
least 4 figures illustrating key concepts involved in the development of this technology (we love
pictures and data), and at least 20 references—Wikipedia does not count as a reference!)
Please provide background, significance, and motivation for this new ancient genome
sequencing project.
Topic: Looting: past present future (the ramifications of looting, the technologies in place to
either prevent it or conduct it, observational history, highlighting looting events, who is affected
the most, who participates the most)
Introduction: Kaelah
• Background (current events, covid, environment for looting as protest)
• History of looting (museums, settlers, etc)
Segway:Kelly
• Current paleo events (open cases for giving things back etc., why its problematic in
paleogenomics too)
• Economic repercussions
• Slowing innovation in the field?
Technologies: Mark
• Surveillance tech
• Archeological sites/drones/cameras/satellite imaging/computer enhancement software
• Soil testing
Policy: Decker
• Nagpra
• Other orgs and policies in the works?
• Social changes (relate to paleogenomics)
• Global solutions (relate to paleogenomics)
• Ethics
• museum/bonerush

Discussion: Deja
Is looting only destruction?
• Parallels with paleogenomics
• Paleogenomics and what constitutes as private property
• who owns genomics? (reparations, identity)
• Data achieved ethically is not data that is always used ethically
Preservation: Joao
• Preventing excavation/tagging of artifacts
• Limiting ancient remain destruction
• Maximizing efficiency for testing genomes
• Accountability for information
-Contact with communities
-Legally binding ethical documentation of researchers
-Awareness campaigns
Conclusion: Kaelah

Kaelah
The president of the United States of America has recently posted a tweet in regards to
the current protests against police brutality, where he stated, “when the looting starts, the
shooting starts”. This statement from the president has effectively condemned those who are in
the streets protesting and looting, but this attitude seems to be reserved for these “thugs”.
Where else do we see this energy when it comes to destruction of property unless the property
is owned by people in power? Somehow when people are looting material items, it’s acceptable
to respond with violence on human lives. When the President comes out of hiding and turns the
lights back on in his big white house on stolen land by stolen people, there will be something
else to tweet about. But the hypocrisy will still hang over us. Looting is not an isolated incident in
this realm of politics, there is a history behind it and a future ahead of it in a broad spectrum of
fields. In fact, one of the most notorious fields of condoned looting have been those of
archaeology and paleogenomics. In this paper, we hope to better understand the past and learn
about the future in the field of science, and also how it impacts people within and outside the
field.
