Research Plan
a. I chose topic C the Human Augmentation: Technology Trend of 2020. Technologies that will
enhance human efficiency and improve the capabilities of our body and mind.
b. Modern-day technologies have quickly transformed the way of life and, perhaps it also, to an
extent changed us. Given our innate human restrictions, these technological advances can
do more than just pick up our slack.
c. In complete sentences briefly state at least three major supporting ideas that your final paper
will present in detail.
1. Wearables have become more and more sought after. However, modern wearables have
so far have been smaller versions of pre-existing devices that can record, show video,
audio, data, movement, or bring people closer together with more capable devices.
2. Implants very few people have functioning implants, but that hasn’t stopped the world
from making grand assumptions about what they can do. Some see implants as the next
big step for humankind when it comes to computer technology.
2
3. Neuromodulation is the type of implants that provide insight into the future of this type of
technology. These devices directly interact with the human nervous system and can
stimulate them in some way. The most well known of these neurostimulators is the
cardiac pacemaker. It is decades old and now a routine treatment for people with heart
conditions. However, a pacemaker does not use a computing device or communication,
so it is not a good demonstration of what most people think of when they think of an
advanced implant.
d. Give a list of five words or phrases that you have used for a keyword search .
1. Human Augmentation
2. Technological trend of 2020
3. Robotics
4. Wearable technology
5. Implants
6. Neurostimulator

f. Separately, generate annotations for each works cited entry (a minimum of 75 words per
entry). Each annotation should describe, summarize or evaluate the source.
1. “ACM Interactions” discusses Neuromodulation, Ethnography and the conceptual
design of implants. It will also give information on the side effects and
complications that come with implants. The article will also give you information
4
on the difficulties of upgrading an implant to the newer version or how the
implant can malfunction, also with this there is a possibility of someone gaining
access and hacking your implant. Then Finally we will talk about implants even
being an ethical piece of technology in our modern-day and age.
2. “Beyond wearables” article will discuss the research conducted in order to
develop new technology and also the upcoming expected results of the research
they conduct with each new piece of smaller wearable technology.
3. “Augmenting human interaction capabilities”… the article talks about what they
investigate and how they develop systems that allow a group of people in close
areas to interact using in-air hand gestures and give effortless information for
sharing. Additionally, they focus on eye gaze which can eventually further the
interaction between people and technological systems.
4. “CSDL” article talks about other types of human-augmentation technologies that
work with specific IT, these include the cloud, big data, and mobile computing.
These also include wearable devices such as watches or bracelets that link the
human body to outside sources of information that are visual, audio, or text-based.
For this issue, they focused mainly on the approach of utilizing computer-based
solutions instead of those that are focused exclusively on the pharmaceutical,
psychological, or physiological approaches.
5. “Human Augmentation Makes List Of 2020” article reports a list of four main
categories of physical augmentation: augmentation to hearing, vision, and
perception, limbs and biological function augmentation to exoskeletons,
5
prosthetics, or brain augmentation like implants to treat seizures and genetic
augmentations. But will focus on one portion of the second category, mainly
prosthetics.
6. “Robotics for Human Augmentation ” talks about how advances in robotics will
extend the human sensory experience, physicality, and cognitively to an
extraordinary level, as the augmentation technology, and the future human race
will be stronger, faster, and less susceptible to injury, and even more productive.
Future technologies will not only make up for human incapacity but it will drive
the extent we humans can reach beyond our normal physiological levels.
EXAMPLE
a. Name your topic…I’m writing about Topic C, and I’ve chosen the phenomenon of
Alzheimer’s disease.
EXAMPLE
b. While the exact causes of Alzheimer’s disease are still not definitively known, experts point
to genetic, environmental, and social factors.
EXAMPLE
c. One possible cause of Alzheimer’s disease may be a genetic predisposition.
A second possible cause of Alzheimer’s disease is…
Yet another possible cause…
EXPLANATION
d. This part is comprised of the most helpful words you’ve been using when you’re searching for
ideas about your chosen topic.
EXPLANATION
e. For the works cited list you’ll be using The St. Martin’s Handbook , pages 411-441 to build
each bibliographic entry. Notice the Source Map for “Articles from Databases” on page 428.
Use this for articles you’ve found in the library’s databases. In addition, page 432 provides a
Source Map with a formula for citing “Work from Web Sites.”
EXPLANATION

f. For each of the four sources, write a paragraph that describes, summarizes, or evaluates the
source. Use the MLA features for in-text citations to help you manage the information. You’ll
use signal phrases at the start of each and a parenthetical at the end. While you’re working on
these you may discover that you’re actually seeing how to integrate some source material into a
rough draft.
