History 401: Start-Up Bibliography Instructions (Due Tuesday, 3/24 Online)
The purpose of the Start-Up Bibliography is to help you begin to assemble a properly- formatted set of materials for your research paper. Once completed, you will have:
A. An organized set of self-rationalized sources for your research paper
B. A basic set of Chicago-style citations, which you can transfer to your research paper footnotes and bibliography
1. Your Start-Up Bibliography should contain no fewer than 6 items, typed in MS Word (No PDFs!) in 12-point Times New Roman font (double spaced). The entire work must be thoroughly edited for grammar/spelling.
2. Each bibliographical entry must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, available online at: http://guides.library.csi.cuny.edu/citing-sources
The Chicago Manual is huge, and you probably won’t run into all of the topics they discuss. Fortunately, there is a quick guide that you can use for many types of sources:

3. Each entry must be accompanied by ~1 paragraph containing the following information:
a. A brief description of the work (i.e. what is it about? (Argument/purpose?)
b. Identification of the author (Who is this person?)
c. How the work is written, and what kinds of sources it uses (Primary, secondary, both?)
d. A statement about how the work specifically fits in to your project (Why are you using this?)
4. For a model, see Rampolla 31-33.
