RE: Week 4 Discussion
Professor Brazil,
The source I would use in my informative speech to Everytown High School is “A book entitled The Guide to Global Warming (published in 2015)”. Although it was published in 2015; a book no matter how old, is a good source of information and in most cases has been vetted by the author’s peers in that specific area of expertise. Although it provides more information then may be needed, it allows me to choose the content I want to use, and I know that the information provided is reliable.
“A pre-recorded interview with an employee at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center”, would be a good source if I were the one that performed the interview. As with a book I could use content from the interview; however, it would be better if I conducted the interview and got answers to questions I may have about the topic. Additionally, not knowing the purpose of the interview or why they chose to interview this individual will hinder what I would take from the interview.
“A documentary film explaining Global Warming”, would also be a good source to use. However, I feel that documentaries can be an unreliable source. Depending on the documentary, there have been known films that portrays personal opinion and use unvetted content to get their points across. So, to use “A documentary film explaining Global Warming” I would first need to research and vet the content in the library to make sure it is reliable. If I need to vet the film, why waste the time and just go straight to the library for my research
