Microsoft is a multinational company that manufactures, licenses, and distributes
computer software and electronics. The company headquartered in Redmond, Washington, was
founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Some of the popular products developed by the
company are hybrid tablets and portable devices using strategic alliances. Bill Gates and Paul
alien founded the company intending to develop basic interpreters. As a company, Microsoft
grew and became dominant in the personal computer operating system market in the 1980s. The
company made the most profit in the operating system market as it made three billionaires and
12, 000 millionaires. The millionaires were among the employees who played a significant role
in the company’s diversification since the 1990s. Microsoft focused on product diversification,
which in turn multiplied the profits. The multinational company invested in corporate
acquisitions, with the largest being LinkedIn. Microsoft spent $26.2 billion for the acquisition of
LinkedIn in December 2016. Skype technologies are also among the large acquisitions that
Microsoft made in May 2011 for $8.5 billion (Hulten, 2010).
The mission of Microsoft is to empower people in different parts of the world, either as
individuals or within organizations. Microsoft, like any other business, faces challenges due to
market dynamics. Technology lists among the main causes of challenges to industries in the
digital market. Microsoft invests in technology to overcome competition by constantly
developing the products. For instance, Microsoft upgrades the operating systems to meet the
standards set by technology and competitors. The company’s cultural setting is founded on
changes to adapt to the market dynamics resulting from digitalization. The stock history of the
company is represented by different graphics, such as line graphs and histograms. Most of
Microsoft’s stock accounts are categorized by the acquisitions made constantly to keep up with
the increasing demand.

Figure 1. Scatterplot representing Microsoft’s High Price
The graph represents the high stock process at Microsoft between May in 2019 and
September in 2020. The shape of the graph shows that the high stock prices were generally at an
increasing trend. The high stock prices increased from August of 2019 to March 2020 before
dropping drastically. The drop shows that the stock prices reduced before taking a peak in April
2020. Some of the possible causes of a drop in the high stock prices are the pandemic and market
limitation. The pandemic led to the closure of most markets, leading to a drastic drop in the
demand for Microsoft products (Alpert,2020). The high stock prices show that Microsoft
produced unique products that most competitors had, thus dominating the market. The drop
observed in March from the graph could result from competition based technological
advancements made by other companies. The high stock price reflects the increased profit levels
in Microsoft from product and market share sales (Microsoft Corp, 2020).

Figure 2. Scatterplot representing Microsoft’s Low Price
The graph represents low stock prices from August 2019 to June 2020. The low price
increased before drastically dropping in October due to changes in demand. The graph shows
that a change in demand due to competition or other market risks affects low stock prices. The
low prices are 35% less than the current price based on the average figure. Some of the possible
causes for the decline in the stock process are when major shareholders plan to sell shares. The
stock prices decline to suit the profitable plans of the company, as indicated by the graph
(Microsoft Corp, 2020).

The histogram graph represents the adjusted closing price for the stock at Microsoft. The
closing price indicates the last stock price after Microsoft accounts for all actions that may cause
changes in value. The graph shows that the closing price value at Microsoft commonly falls at
141.33 with a frequency of 60. The closing stock price shows the last cash value of the stock that
Microsoft set before the market closed. Some of the actions that are considered to be completed
before determining the adjusted value are stock split, dividends, and right offerings. The closing
price value considers the adjustment actions performed by Microsoft to regulate overall returns
(Microsoft Corp, 2020).

The graph represents Microsoft stock volume, which accounts for the number of
exchanged shares in a day. The stock volume at Microsoft, in most days, falls around 2650400 at
a frequency of 60. The stock volume is regulated by different activities that the company
performs to balance production. As a multinational company, Microsoft uses stocks to analyze
the value of each transaction in a day. Stock volume accounts for the transactions made in the
different acquisitions, as indicated by the data. The histogram’s frequency values refer to the
number of days when the stock volume falls under each specific figure. The minimum volume is
8900,000, while the maximum volume falls at 97100000, as indicated in the range (Microsoft
Corp, 2020).

Adjusted Close
The mean of the adjusted close represents the average closing stock price on different
periods. The mean is calculated by dividing the total closing price figures with the highest
frequency. The mean value of the adjusted closing price falls at 161.42 higher than the median.
The average adjusted close is important in making financial decisions for Microsoft to determine
the most suitable changes.
The max shows the highest figure that Microsoft considered as the adjusted price within a
specific time. The maximum adjusted price is 214.32, which is way above the mean value
showing that a major action occurred during the specific time.
The min adjusted close value indicates the lowest closing price that Microsoft set within
the specified time. Some of the causes of decreased adjusted close could be reliance on wrong
reports regarding the market.
The median shows the central most figure based depending on the number than Microsoft
adjusted the stock prices. The median value is 157.27 lower than the mean because it lacks
normal distribution. Some of the possible causes of skewed data are major shareholder price
regulation and other adjustment actions mostly committed by the company.
MICROSOFT DATA ANALYTICS
8
The mode falls at 136.90 to indicate the most set adjusted closing price by Microsoft. The
company took adjustment actions to increase demand for the shares by setting 136.90 in most
closing times.
The standard deviation of the adjustable close indicates the risk measurement by giving
the average price for individual products. The low standard deviation of 22 compared to the
mean indicates the low volatility of the data. The standard deviation shows that Microsoft has
minimal risk of making losses based on the stock prices as it is low.
Stock Volume
The mean stock volume indicates the average number of shares transacted within a specific time.
Microsoft is a multiple stock company; thus, the mean shows the average value of all stock
volumes divided by a specific duration. The mean volume is at 34296079, which can be used to
make financial decisions in the company.
Max indicates the highest value of transactions in a single day recorded at Microsoft
within the specified duration of the analysis. The max value is 97073600, which shows a big
difference in stock volumes compared to the mean.
The min value indicates the lowest number of transactions made in a single day from
individual stocks at Microsoft. The min stock value is 8989200, way lower than the max to
indicate the effect of financial decisions. The difference between the max and min occurs when
the company makes drastic decisions to change the highest and lowest stock prices.
The median indicates the central value of transactions received by Microsoft in the
middle day within the set duration. The difference between the median and mean value for stock
MICROSOFT DATA ANALYTICS

volume indicates a lack of normal distribution of data. Some of the causes of skewed data in the
stock volume are demand changes and the company’s policies.
The standard deviation shows the risk assessment value of Microsoft and the volatility of
the collected data. The value of the standard deviation is at 17795683 to means the high volatility
of the data. Microsoft should implement risk management strategies to avoid losses associated
with the stock volume (Microsoft, 2020).
Potential Business Applications
The leaders at Microsoft must be aware of the changes in stock volume and prices over
time. The high stock prices are at an increasing rate but drastically change due to various
reasons. The company should consider all the possible causes of high stock price decline.
Microsoft should use the trends in low and high price changes to regulate the value of shares for
future profits. The management at Microsoft must be willing to make the necessary changes to
avoid the financial impacts of the unpredicted decline in high stock prices. Microsoft should
consider utilizing technology maximally to produce unique products that will maintain a high
stock price (Chowdhry, 2020).
The information provided after analysis of the graphical and statistical data can be used
by the company to make business decisions. The mean of the adjusted closing price and stock
volume indicates the current position of the shares market. The management should use the
information to introduce changes that will increase the stock values. For instance, Microsoft can
use the stock volume interpretation to regulate selling and buying stock in the form of shares.
The company can set a certain fraction that Microsoft can sell shares through major shareholders
at a specific price.
MICROSOFT DATA ANALYTICS
10
The interpretations indicate high volatility of the data on the stock volume, which means
a risk factor in a business context. Microsoft should use the interpretation to analyze the possible
risk factors that can affect the business. Microsoft can use the data to make financial decisions to
maximize the competitive operating system market’s income. The interpretation of graphical and
statistical data plays a significant role in business assessment and decision-making for
profitability (Chowdhry, 2020).

Assessment 4 Instructions: Presenting Data Analysis Results
Effectively
Create a 9-slide PowerPoint presentation that interprets four of the graphs from the report you created in the last
two assessments. You have the option of recording a voice-over of up to 10 minutes or including detailed presenter’s
notes in the PowerPoint slide deck to explain the points in each slide.
The ability to translate analytic results into clear, concise business language and actionable results is vital for
managers and analysts. Managers are often required to present the results of their team’s analysis to executives and
must be able to explain the results at a high level as well as understand enough about the details to answer any
questions the executives might pose.
How much an analysis is valued can depend heavily on how well the results of that analysis are articulated.
Communicating the results of your data analysis so the applications to your business are clear and explicit can greatly
enhance the value of your analytic work. In this assessment, consider how you can best communicate the results that
you wrote about in your previous assessment. Review any feedback you received on your first assessment and use it
to enhance this assessment.
Scenario
You are a senior analyst in a business. You may choose any publicly traded company of interest that has practical
meaning for you. Your immediate supervisor read your last analytics report on the company’s historical stock
performance and was so impressed with your work that she has asked you to present the key points from that report
at a company-wide meeting.
Your Role
You have been allotted no more than 10 minutes to present the highlights of your analytics report to an audience
from all levels of the company and explain how the results of your analysis apply to the business using four charts or
tables from your report.
Instructions
Create a 9-slide PowerPoint presentation with detailed presenter’s notes or recorded voice-over in which you
present and interpret four graphs from the report you created in the last two assessments. Format your presentation
as follows:
1 title slide.
1 introduction slide explaining the business context.
4 graphics slides: one for each of the four charts in your report and your interpretation of each chart.
2 conclusion slides explaining how the data analysis results can be applied in the chosen business context.
1 slide with APA-formatted references.
Additional Requirements
Use short but complete sentences that are clear, comprehensible, and free of jargon for each bullet point.
Include no more than 3 bullet points per slide if possible.
Include APA-formatted in-text citations where appropriate
Ensure your presentation is relevant to and easily understood by everyone in the audience. Remember, you
will be speaking to people of all levels in the company.
If you include a voice-over in lieu of presenter’s notes, your recording should be no longer than 12 minutes.
Your written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
Include an APA-formatted references slide at the end of the presentation.
Evaluation
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course
competencies through corresponding scoring guide criteria:
Competency 1: Explain how data management techniques and tools are used to support business decisions.
Introduce the business context.
Explain how the results of your analysis are applicable to the business context.
Competency 4: Present the results of data analysis in clear and meaningful ways to multiple stakeholders.
Interpret or explain the meaning of the two different graphical representations of data.
Format citations and references correctly using current APA style.
Present content clearly, professionally, and logically for the identified audience.
Note: Faculty may use the Writing Feedback Tool when grading this assessment. The Writing Feedback Tool is
designed to provide you with guidance and resources to develop your writing based on five core skills. You will find
writing feedback in the Scoring Guide for the assessment, once your work has been evaluated.
