EWRT 2 De Anza College Automobile Engineering in a USA Auto Manufacturing Company Research Paper Write a research paper introduce an entry-level position in a specific career you want to pursue after college. That entry-level position must be based in the U.S working for a U.S-based organization. Whichever particular entry-level job you choose to research and write about, your choice must be realistic. For instance, a career as a physical therapist, family law attorney or pediatrician is realistic; however, book author, movie director, guitar hero, starting your own high technology firm (with no experience), or CEO of a major company is not.
Discuss just the following subjects in the first part of the research paper (include in this order, with each as a separate section): • Introduction: what the job is. Start wide and narrow to focus your audience’s attention to what you will write about, which is described in your research statement.
• The day-by-day activities of the job, meaning a snapshot of what people having this job do.
• What the career offers society; how the job affects the rest of us.
• Why people may be interested in this career.
• Required education and degrees.
• Continuing education requirement(s), if any.
• Required licenses, and by what governmental or professional organization.
• Legal requirements, such as credentials, fingerprinting or criminal background check
• Conclusion
All of the above areas of discussion require some thought and research — perhaps including your interviewing someone employed in such a position — as well as both careful documentation of your sources and logical presentation of the facts.
Please make sure this is for a US-based company/organization subject to US employment laws & practices. Remember it is a entry-level position as an automobile engineer in a U.S. auto manufacturing company, please be realistic. Attached is the requirement detail, please read through before you start! First Part of Research Paper
Sum 20
Assignment
Investigate and write the first part of your research paper (“RP 1”) on your
previously approved topic: an entry-level position in a specific career you
want to pursue after college. That entry-level position must be based in the
U.S working for a U.S-based organization. Whichever particular entry-level job
you choose to research and write about, your choice must be realistic. For
instance, a career as a physical therapist, family law attorney or pediatrician is
realistic; however, book author, movie director, guitar hero, starting your own
high technology firm (with no experience), or CEO of a major company is not.
Some successful choices for past research papers include:
• probation officer
• mechanical engineer
• dietician
• high school PE instructor
• intellectual property attorney
• nurse
• App UI designer
• specific medical professional
• technical writer
• pharmacist
Discuss just the following subjects in the first part of the research paper
(include in this order, with each as a separate section):
• Introduction: what the job is. Start wide and narrow to focus your
audience’s attention to what you will write about, which is described in
your research statement.
• The day-by-day activities of the job, meaning a snapshot of what people
having this job do.
• What the career offers society; how the job affects the rest of us.
• Why people may be interested in this career.
• Required education and degrees.
• Continuing education requirement(s), if any.
• Required licenses, and by what governmental or professional
organization.
• Legal requirements, such as credentials, fingerprinting or criminal
background check
• Conclusion
All of the above areas of discussion require some thought and research —
perhaps including your interviewing someone employed in such a position — as
well as both careful documentation of your sources and logical presentation of
the facts.

Logistics
• Again, your research paper topic must be an entry-level job you could
reasonably expect to qualify for after completing your college goals,
whether that be an Associate, Bachelors, Masters, MD, Ph.D. or
whatever your initial plans may be. You may also plan to graduate
with an initial degree, begin your career, then return to college in the
future for an advanced degree. Whatever your chosen topic, just keep
it realistic. Also, remember that your goal with this assignment is to
write the best possible research paper you can, so you may find after
initial research that another career path may be a better candidate
for your paper topic because more information resources are
available. Point of fact, most students find that though some career
paths hold great interest for them, some of the more creative or
artistic fields are very difficult to find standardized information about
the key areas of the job you will be researching. For instance, most
filmmaking positions are difficult to write about because less
standardized information and data exists about gaining the job or the
day-to-day work life compared to other careers. The same holds true
for a career in writing or, now, journalism. So again, keep your eye on
the goal: writing the research paper, which means being able to find
the research sources, so do not make the mistake of picking a job that
has little in the way of available information just because the job
sounds like it would be cool to haves.
Your proposed research paper topic is due no later than 5 PM,
Pacific Time, on Friday, July 10th. Send an email to my
smithbrian@fhda.edu address (not Canvas!), and include
• Your name as it appears on the college registration
• Your preferred first name if that is different from the above
• 1 to 2 sentences max that include
▪ the usual, official title for the job
▪ the industry
I need the job title as it commonly termed in your chosen industry.
For example, “working in a marketing department” is not a commonly
used job title, entry-level or otherwise. “Marketing Associate” or
“Marketing Assistant,” however, are the usual, official job titles for
entry-level marketing employees with no experience, and you will find
lots of job postings looking for new hires and using those titles in the
job description. Also, every company in the U.S. has Marketing
Associates, and depending on what type of industry or vertical market

Sum 20
that particular job is in, the job’s duties, day-to-day, compensation
package etc. will vary widely. So you need to be more specific. On the
other hand, you do not want to narrow yourself to a particular
company, because if, for example, you propose the topic of
“Marketing Associate at J. P. Morgan investment bank,” and J.P.
Morgan chooses not to make public some of the information you need,
you are stuck. In that case, I will ask you to revise your topic to
something like “Marketing Associate in an investment bank.” That will
give you enough flexibility to find the information you need since you
will have a variety of sources.
If I do require you to revise your proposed RP topic, any revised topic
is due no later than 5 PM, Pacific Time, on Wednesday, July 15th.
Again, you only need to revise if I ask you to, and I will only ask that
of you if my experience tells me you are heading off a cliff with your
first choice of a topic. The Research Paper topic proposal is worth 10
points of the RP 1 grade.
• An MLA-formatted, draft copy of just your research paper 1 Works
Cited is due as a Word document (.docx) file no later than 5 PM on
Wednesday, July 22nd to the TurnItIn RP 1 Draft WC Folder. Your
draft Works Cited must have a minimum of five major sources. See the
discussion below in bullet 6 on p. 5 for additional information
regarding major sources and removing hypertext links. The draft
Works Cited equals 40 points of the RP 1 grade. Note: this is only a
draft; you can change any or all of the entries for your final RP1 WC.
• You must electronically submit the final version of your RP 1 to the RP
1 Final folder on TurnItIn by 5 PM on Monday, July 27th. Upload
only a Word document file (.docx) final version of your research paper
formatted to the MLA requirements, including the Works Cited
page(s). TurnItIn will not accept papers after the due date and
time, and I will not grade anything but a Word document file.
Page Length Requirements
• This first part of the research paper must be a minimum five full
pages plus your properly formatted Works Cited Page(s). Remember
also that a “page” means a full page in length to the bottom margin,
which is 23 lines of text in the MLA format, not counting the page
numbering in the upper right-hand corner. If you simply meet the full
five-pages plus Works Cited requirement, together with all the
other minimum requirements for this assignment, expect to receive
an average, or C, grade. Exceed the minimum requirements if you
want a higher grade.

Other Requirements
• Your research paper, both Part 1 and the Combined RP, must be
wholly your own work. The only exceptions to this rule are the
research sources you use and list on your Works Cited, as well as any
help you receive from either De Anza College’s Writing and Reading
Center (WRC), De Anza’s online tutoring services or the course
instructor. In other words, you need to write the paper yourself. You
cannot use anyone other than those listed above, including relatives,
friends, your dog, and/or contracted services – either paid or unpaid –
to write any portions of the paper. Doing so in either RP 1 or the RP 2
Combined Research Paper (aka Combo RP) will result in a zero grade
for that research paper assignment and my having to refer you to the
college administration per the college’s requirements.
• You must format your Research Paper Part 1 according to our class
discussion, and that format is based on the MLA guidelines (see the MS
Word 2016 Essay Format Instructions document and Lunsford),
including, amongst the other MLA format requirements, that you:
▪ Use the correct margins, pagination in the upper right, font,
font size, line spacing, and first line of paragraph indentation.
Include the correctly formatted and positioned author block on
the first page only.
▪ Set the Spacing After command to zero and turning off the
Widow/Orphan control.
▪ Insert a correctly positioned and formatted paper title that is
relevant to the paper topic, e.g. not “Research Paper” or a
similar title.
• Use the third-person point of view (POV) when writing both parts of
your research paper, which means you will use the “he, she, they”
voice rather than the “I, we” voice. Consider that your research paper
does not reflect your own opinion, but that you are instead acting as a
spokesperson for expert sources who have analyzed and reported
about the topic. Your target reading audience is a large group of
people considering your research paper topic as a career, and they
want to hear what experts knowledgeable about the topic have to say.
• Include an Introduction section, which narrows the reader’s attention
from the general to the specific of your research statement.
• A clear, concise research statement in the Introduction section
informs the reader of the purpose for the research paper. Like a thesis
statement in an essay, the research thesis informs the reader of what

Sum 20
the paper is about. See Lunsford pp. 72-115 about writing research
papers, and in particular, pp. 83-4 for information regarding “research
paper questions” (aka “research paper statements”).
• Employ correct grammar usage. Grammar issues will lower your
research paper score.
• Do not use contractions (for example: “don’t,” doesn’t,” “we’re,”
“it’s” etc.) unless the contraction is originally part of any material you
are quoting. Contractions are not used in formal writing, and correctly
setting the grammar options according to the MLA Format Instructions
document will automatically flag any contractions you inadvertently
use so you can correct them.
• Provide smooth transitions between paragraphs
• Use a series of body paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence
followed by information, examples, analysis, and a concluding
sentence (what is known as the “P.I.E. model”). Just as a research
statement (or a thesis statement for an analytical essay) tells the
reader what the entire paper is about, a paragraph topic sentence
tells the reader what the paragraph they are about to read is about.
• Finish with a concluding section that acts as a summation of the
research material. This conclusion should be a paraphrase (not just a
word for word repetition) of your most important points, and the
conclusion also ties back to the research statement while answering
the “so what?” and “why should I care?” questions.
• Your research paper must include quotes or data from a minimum of
five major sources to support your discussion, and all of your sources
must have both correct MLA parenthetical citations and accurate
entries on your MLA-formatted Works Cited list. Five major sources do
not simply mean five pages from one web site; you instead need to use
a mix of sources in your research. Delete the hypertext protocol
abbreviation (http:// or https://) from the urls you place on your
Works Cited list, and begin the urls with whatever follows the second
forward slash. An example is https://www.fhda.edu, which would
actually appear in a works cited entry as just www.fhda.edu. Other
than the http:// or https:// at the start of a url, include all of the
remaining url information in the Works Cited entry for all web sources
listed on your Works Cited page. You also need to disable the
embedded link in each url on that Works Cited page by right-clicking
the url and choosing REMOVE HYPERLINK from the right-click menu
that appears. Doing so will remove the embedded web link, change
the font color from blue to black, and remove the underline.

Sum 20
You can certainly use reputable web sites for some of the Works Cited
entries, but again, you can only count any number of pages from the
same web site as one source towards the minimum five sources. As an
example, you might look up the Wikipedia.org web pages for
“Interviews,” “Salary” and “Consulting.” You should list those on your
Works Cited page if you quote or paraphrase from any of those three
web pages. However, you only get credit for one Works Cited source
(e.g.Wikipedia.org), not three. Remember also that the Works Cited
list is on a separate page(s) at the end of the research paper, and
that, again, the Works Cited does not apply towards meeting the
minimum five- page length. As this is a research paper, the properly
MLA-formatted Works Cited page(s) and parenthetical citations are a
key part of your grade for this assignment.
• You should use quotes solely to buttress your discussion and inform the
reader, not simply to fill up your paper. Consequently, use the fewest
amount of words in each quote to make your point – do not quote
more material than is necessary. An excessive number of direct quotes
(quotes set off by double quotation marks), or direct quotes that are
excessively long – more than two lines of essay text – will lower your
grade. In addition, the excessive use of paraphrasing will also lower
your grade. Your research paper needs to be the summation of your
research, not simply a collection of other people’s words. Refer back
to the document discussing plagiarism you read earlier on Canvas, as
well as the entries pointed to under the “plagiarism” heading in the
Lunsford index on p. 384 if you have questions about acceptable
paraphrasing and plagiarism.
• Spell-check, grammar-check and proofread your paper.
Grading
• The RP 1 assignment totals 250 possible points: 10 points for the
research paper topic, 30 points for the draft Works Cited, and 210
points for the first half research paper itself. RP 1 and the later
combined research paper assignment together represent the bulk of
the term grade, so start work early and do your best. Again, simply
meeting the above minimum requirements constitutes a ‘C,’ or an
average grade paper. If you want a higher grade, you need to exceed
the minimum requirements.
Some Things to Remember
• Lunsford includes all of the Works Cited entry information you need to
create your Works Cited page. Your paper will receive a lower grade if

Sum 20
you do not include both properly formatted parenthetical citations
and a Works Cited page.
• Please, please remember the college tutoring services, a terrific
online resource to help you in any phase, from the initial start of the
paper to the final polish of your work. However, remember that the
tutors are almost certainly not familiar with your chosen topic, so they
will be limited in how much they can provide you in deciding what
material to research for your paper or where to find it. Also,
remember that while the tutors can help you correct mistakes, they
cannot act as an editor or proofreader, so you cannot simply ask the
tutor to “fix your grammar”; their guidelines do not allow them to do
so. What they can do is help you fix your grammar by pointing out why
some paragraphs or sentences need revision, and what the remedies
could be. Links to the WRC tutoring services are at the bottom of this
page.
Additional Help and Advice
I am available via email and will respond within 24 hours except for the
weekends. But keep in mind I will not be able to do much if you wait until
just before a research paper component (RP topic, draft WC, final version)
deadline to contact me. Please also note that with 75 students in two
classes during a 6-week, condensed quarter, I am unable to “check over,”
“read through,” or proofread your draft. I can instead answer specific
questions, including grammar questions, about a particular section of your
paper, as well as give you general advice about the paper or research
sources. Again, remember that the Writing and Reading Center (WRC) tutors
are available via Zoom conferencing or other online tools, and the online
NetTutor service is available by logging into their website through Canvas.
Check both services through the links below for details on procedure. Just
keep in mind that both these tutoring services do require you to plan ahead
and have a working draft available so the tutors have something to work
with, and both have restrictions regarding availability and response times.

United States Air Force Combat Rescue Officer
The United States Air Force Combat Rescue Officer (CRO) career field, Air Force
Specialty Code (AFSC) 13DXA, is a male or female Air Force Officer who operates in the
United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). Combat Rescue Officers are
trained to lead personnel through dangerous situations to accomplish a single mission –
personnel recovery. CROs are tested beyond their limit in fitness, mental endurance and strength,
leadership, and put through years of various trainings in order to support the mission of
personnel recovery.
The U.S. Air Force combat rescue is the only unit of its kind in the entire U.S. Armed
Forces (CRO 13DXA). As leaders in this field, CROs have the primary function of command
and control of Pararescuemen (PJs), the enlisted counterpart, for personnel recovery missions
(Wikipedia). This can include the rescue of fellow or allied service members who may be in
distress or injured during combat and training operations, and those who become medically
afflicted at distances far from professional medical facilities (USAF Careers). They even recover
civilians who are stranded, ill, or injured and beyond the rescue range and/or capabilities of
police, fire, medical or U.S. Coast Guard capabilities.
A new CRO will initially spend time in the field with PJs, but will begin to transition to
more leadership and organizational roles as time goes on (Miller). This is all due to their primary
function of command and control. Although their career’s will lead them to leadership and less

hands-on operations, they still must recertify all their skills to meet the same standards as those
they lead (Miller). Typical duties of a CRO, as outlined by Smith, are: deploying as a team
member, team leader, or mission commander; working as a mission planner and manager of
personnel recovery operations; ensuring personnel recovery (PR) activities are organized, and
that teams are trained and equipped to perform a full spectrum of Air Force and Joint PR;
inspecting and evaluating PR activities, functions, and personnel; and providing advocacy and
oversight as well as advice on readiness of the Pararescue and survival, evasion, resistance and
escape (SERE) enlisted career fields….
