Expanding On My Previous Argument
Of Cigarette Smokers
Right now, I’m in the early stages of this writing about the question of whether or not tobacco
companies should be held liable for the deaths and diseases of the individuals that suffer due to the impact of
these companies’ products. The first thing you should do when writing a paper on a topic would be to figure
out the thesis. The thesis should state your main point of the writing. My early thesis on the tobacco
companies would be one that would advocate holding them guilty to these accusations. There can be no
denying that their pandering to young children and outright knowledge of their products harm cannot
continue to be ignored.
My current thesis goes like this. With outright scandalous advertising and pandering to children and
even public acknowledgment of the harmfulness of their products to those that consume them, there are no
questions as to whether or not they should be held accountable for all deaths and diseases attributed to their
companies. After years of denying the destructive effects, they were forced by governments across the world
to state the hazards of their products publicly. In some countries, it is the law to label each of their products
with a warning label stating specific potential harmful effects. I do believe if the product contains a warning

label stating the adverse effects, and one still chooses to use the product, they should not be entitled to any
monetary compensation. What about the millions of people that became ill or died before these rules took
place? There should be a fund set up for individuals that become sick so that they can get money for bills from
this fund. I feel this is along the same line of holding gun makers and dealers accountable for the deaths
caused by their products. Tobacco company executives get paid very well, and they will d anything to maintain
that job and their wealth. With even trying to get kids hooked onto their products, so they can continue to
have a striving customer base generation after generation. With billions of dollars at stake, many of the
employees will put the lives of others at risk so that they can gain and maintain their life of grandeur.
My thesis is still a work in progress that will continue to get refined gradually. Still, it will always center
around the belief that tobacco companies should be held liable for damages to people’s lives. I have not had
anyone loved one in my life succumb to a tobacco-related injury but know others who have dealt with it.
Throat cancer is a significant problem with these products, and is directly attributed to tobacco, yet they are
not held accountable for this. I may be prejudice as I see no good in tobacco products, and as my
understanding goes, the products are only destructive to humans. It is an unfathomable thought in my head
for there to be a thriving industry that revolves around purposely harming and causing death to others.
