Coronavirus and Lockdown
Q: How will the public respond to changes in policy as we come out of the lock-down?
Context: lock-down is a state of isolation that is instituted by authorities to restrict people from
interacting and also to minimize movement, and that serves as a security measure. The lockdown imposed during the coronavirus pandemic is used to ease the transmission process of the
disease. The need for the lock-down is to ensure that there is minimal transfer of the same
disease to a large population while those infected are controlled under their special areas to
undergo treatment (Weible, et al. 2020). The lock-down will impact the lives of the people in
different ways and will change the way people respond to the policies that are set.
Conversation: From the research done so far, the public is relying on media as the only way to
reach the authority for their demands. The policies established during the coronavirus pandemic
impact the public in different ways and are causing changes in the way the public is responding
to the pandemic. Lock-down as a strategy to curb the widespread of the covid-19 has changed
the way people are responding to policies. When the lock-down is lifted in different areas, the
public will respond differently to the changes in policies. The public will either accept or be
against some of the policies depending on how such policies will affect their lives. The lifting of
the lock-down will realize an economically affected population, where people will be struggling
to stabilize since their source of income will have been affected (Weible, et al. 2020). Therefore,
the policies that are not favorable may face opposition from the people. The response to the
covid-19 pandemic relies heavily on mass behavioral change, and lock-down is one of the
behavioral changes adopted. Behavioral changes have negative impacts on the lives of the
public, and this will also result in a negative response to the changes in policies after the lockdown.

Understanding the Conversation
This essay is the next step in developing your
research is to understand the conversation
surrounding your issue – AND beginning to get these
ideas on paper. This will involve you gathering
perspectives from a diverse group of stakeholders
connected to your issue. In order to do this, you will
need to find sources that present these perspectives.
You can read letters to the editor, opinion pieces,
interviews, or essays written by or about these
stakeholders. You are also required to conduct your
own primary research (e.g. scholarly sources) to
gather these perspectives. Your focus should be to
understand the complexity of the issue and to see the
issue as a complex and layered conversation instead
of a pro/con or for/against discussion.
In the text of your essay, you will be presenting the conversation you’ve found and analyzing the
various perspectives. What is the argument being made? What evidence or experience used to
support this argument? Is the argument logical and analytical? (See “Logical fallacies” resource
for this on our Lesson Four page.) What are possible biases for this perspective? Has the source
presented you with any new or interesting ideas? Do some of your sources agree/disagree? What
questions do you have and what would you like to research further based upon this perspective?
Remember that you are not presenting your opinions or drawing any conclusions at this
point. This essay is an exercise in exploration and analysis.
At the conclusion of your essay, you should synthesize your findings and arrive at a clear,
complex, and arguable RESEARCH QUESTION. This question will focus and guide your
research from here on out for the FINAL Essay.
The elements below are required for this short essay:
● Awareness of the academic audience and application of rhetorical concepts including
appropriate language, tone, and organization
● A clear understanding of the complexity of the topic and perspective through the
presentation of multiple perspectives and analysis of these perspectives
● A minimum of 4 sources (t least 2 primary sources) cited per APA and analyzed in the text
of the essay
● A research question based upon the conversation noted in the conclusion of the essay that
the student plans to investigate in the Research Essay.
● 1,000-1,200 words, formatted and cited per APA guidelines
Successful students use resources available to them including Walsh’s Digital Library, Writing
Center, personal librarians, and of course, Prof M.
Stakeholders assignment
Write about where you ended up with your assignment last Sunday. Next,
make a list of possible stakeholders in this issue. After that, write about
where you think you might find perspectives of these stakeholders. Next,
go out and try to find popular sources that present these perspectives.
Record your findings in this journal. Journals need only be one page long.
