1.(Setting) Why is the title of this short story “A&P”? What role does the grocery store itself play in the story?

2.(Conflict) Where is “A&P” does the dramatic conflict become apparent? What moment in the story brings the crisis? What is the climax of the story?

3.(Character/ Point of View) Describe Sammy. What is your reaction to his description of the girls and what he says about the customers?

4.(Theme)Why, exactly, does Sammy quit his job at the A&P? What, if any, are his reasons? (Do you think that Sammy made the “right” decision to quit? Do you think his “heroic” gesture changed anything?)
