QUESTION:

Molière’s “Tartuffe” and Douglass’s “Narrative of the Life” are dramatic representations of society in two different time periods. Using both the play and the narrative, discuss the authors’ representations of social and religious issues that plagued society during their time.

SUGGESTIONS:

1. INTRODUCTION: Clearly identify the authors and the texts, as well as the places where the text was published. Say what issues they have in common; what differences exist?

2. BODY PARAGRAPHS: For each text, discuss the time period in history during which the text was published. What were some important issues affecting the society in which the author lived? Use a transitional phrase to move from one paragraph to the next.

3. Examine different aspects of the text to show that it was a product of the times: setting, characters, language, plot
