ENC1102 Florida International University Week 5 Slacktivism Discussion Paper As you continue to draft your two texts that work to put your research into action, consider what it means to put research “into action” in various ways. For this discussion, you will review a series of texts that take different positions on the effectiveness of “slacktivism.” Although they are all participating in the same conversation, each text uses different genres and reaches different audiences. You can use this activity to help you think through how your texts will communicate a specific message to a specific audience in a specific genre.

For this activity, you will look at the documents contained in this file. Then answer the questions below.

Pick 2 of the 5 boxes on the graphic and explain the argument in that box, which is given as a major reason to support the main argument.

Explain how one of the facts given supports your interpretation.

Reflect: what did you learn by comparing all these texts? How do the different texts (in different genres) communicate differently? In what ways are they participating in the same conversation? Which text was the most interesting/informative in your opinion? If you were to create a text that was not in one of the genres represented here, what kind of text/genre would you create?
