followed.

In the cover (first) page of the assignment, type your name, college ID and your section number.

Use Microsoft Word for typing your answers in the answer script. Use more pages in the same document, if necessary.

The typing should be clear and insert your diagrams, wherever necessary, to the document itself by copy/paste.

The entire document should be type-written using the font- Times New Roman and size – 12 (Refer to format of assignment provided above).

The diagrams should be drawn by software or neatly in paper using sharp pencils. Either scan or take a picture of the diagram and insert it in the
document as an image.

All questions in every part should be answered, including the problems. The problems should be worked out with proper calculations and the
solution should be presented neatly. Calculators can be used for solving problems.

Plagiarism similarity should be maintained below 25%.

Write in your own words and do not copy from handout or source directly.
Use the eLearning Turnitin final assignment link to upload your assignment which has been done in this same file in word document

PART-I (12 marks)
Technical Report: A
(6 marks)
Brief the working of combined cycle power plant with suitable diagram. It uses the exit of gas
power plant as input energy to thermal power plant instead of air and fuel.
Report requirements: (1X6=6 marks)
This report should provide a clear, concise summary including principle requirements, major devices
and energy transformation happening in them. Provide self-drawn schematic drawing of such power
plant.
Technical Report: B
(6 marks)
Compare the batch, flat plate and evacuated tube solar water heaters in terms of performance,
initial, operational cost and accessibility to people in Oman.
Report requirements: (2X3=6 marks)
Brief the working of each solar water heater. Then cost involved in buying and operating the water
heater. At last the performance of each heater and their suitability to be used by people of Oman.

PART-II (12 marks)
Technical Arithmetic Report: A
(6 marks)
Evaluate the effect of each wind power parameters over the effective power generated by a wind
turbine. Compare the effective power generated if the blade length increased from 60m to 70m
and simultaneously power co-efficient changes from 0.4 to 0.5 respectively. Plot a graph between
PActual power and Effective power by taking PActual power on X-axis. Assume the other values are same
for both the cases.
Report requirements: (2X3=6 marks)
Discuss the various wind power parameters considered and their individual influence in generating
effective power by a wind turbine. Plot the graph for the numerical values given. Assume suitable
data wherever necessary. List down the data provided in the questions in a clear format while
answering. Solve the problem by making appropriate use of formulas and present the required
information with units. You should do the calculations in steps procedure for each problem
description. Use equation command in MS office to type calculations and formulas or Write down the
solution in a paper and insert as image in the document.
Technical Arithmetic Report: B
(6 marks)
Design a solar PV system to a single bed room flat in Oman. The system will be powered by
24 V DC, 120 WP PV modules. Assume all the basic necessary electrical appliances to run a family in
the flat.
Report requirements: (1X6=6 marks)
List the various electrical appliances needed with suitable voltage and hours of usage. Assume
suitable data wherever necessary. Give proper justification for the assumption. List down the data
provided in the questions in a clear format while answering. Solve the problem by making
appropriate use of formulas and present the required information with units. You should do the
calculations in steps procedure for each problem description. Use equation command in MS office to
type calculations and formulas or Write down the solution in a paper and insert as image in the
document.

PART-III (12 marks)
Technical Report: A
(6 marks)
Summarize the biomass materials available in Oman and suggest the suitable methods to convert
them into other forms of energy, and then explain any one method with suitable diagram.
Report requirements: (2X3=6 marks)
Discuss biomass materials for consideration and suggest methods for energy conversion. Explain any
one suitable method in detail.
Technical Report: B
(6 marks)
Review the performances of a floating drum bio gas plant’s with emphasis on the components and
devices used in the system and appraise its advantages over fixed dome bio gas plant with similar
indicators.
Report requirements: (2X3=6 marks)
Discuss floating drum biogas plant performance in compliance with the components and devices.
Then state its advantages over the fixed dome biogas plant on the same basis.

PART-IV (14 marks)
Technical Report: A
(9 marks)
1. Categorize the wind turbines and list the classifications based on them. (3 marks)
2. List the devices housed by a nacelle of a wind turbine and sequence them with the energy
transformation performed by them.
(3 marks)
3. State the importance of control system in the operation of wind turbine and mention the
parameters that are been controlled by the control system.
(3 marks)
Report requirements for Part IV (A & B): (9 + 5 =14 marks)
This report should provide a clear, concise summary of the requirement. Add diagrams and equation
wherever possible. The suggestions offered must have proper justification.
Technical Report: B
