Organisation is looking to gain an understanding of whats happening in these countries.
IMF works to foster global financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high
employment and sustainable economic growth around the world.
Your task is analyse the datasets and tell a story with your dataset using Tableau and
PowerPoint slides. What does your analysis for IMF?
Questions.
Prepare a presentation using any tool of your choice that we have studied in class including
(Tableau, SQL, PPT, etc.) to tell a story of the data in your portfolio.
1. Use the Financial development index dataset to answer the following questions:
a. Import the data into SQL server and create a table called
Financial_Development_Index
b.
c.
d.
e.
i. Count the unique number of countries in the entire dataset
ii. Write a SQL query to extract the Financial development index and
Financial market index for the countries in your portfolio.
Globally, what are top 5 countries with the highest financial development and
financial markets indices?
Which country in your portfolio has the highest financial development index?
Which of the countries in your portfolio has experienced the highest growth in their

Show on a map with colour gradient the financial indices of countries in your
portfolio in final year.
Tips:
–
Rename the column names with the header in the flat file.
Ensure that the file is closed before you attempt to import into the SQL server database.
Change the data type for Value column as float.
If you mistakenly imported all your columns as characters, use the following query to
convert the value as data type float
ALTER TABLE [DAML].[dbo].[Financial_Development_Index] ALTER COLUMN
[Value] FLOAT
2. Use the International Financial Statistics dataset to analyse the countries in your portfolio
in Tableau based on the following indicators:
i.
Assets, Direct Investment, US Dollars (This is the international investment positions
of the respective countries)
ii.
External Trade, Goods, Value of Exports, Free on Board (FOB), US Dollars (This is the
value of goods and services exported by the country

International Liquidity, Total Reserves excluding Gold, US Dollars (this is the amount
of international reserves, excluding gold)
iv.
Total Reserves, US Dollars (Gold at Market Price)
v.

vi.
Unemployment, Persons, Number of
vii.
Tourism, Number of Visitors, Persons, Number of (tourists)
viii.
Prices, Consumer Price Index, All items, Index (the consumer price index)
ix.
Disposable Income, Net, Nominal, Domestic Currency
Use these questions as a guide in answering the questions but they are NOT exhaustive:
1. How are the countries performing along these indicators in the last 10 years
upward or downward trend?
2. Who are the best and worst performers relative to others in the portfolio?
3. By how much has the indicators increased or decreased relative to first?
4. How do the best/worst performers in your portfolio compare with the overall
dataset?
5. So what? As a consultant what do these mean to the IMF and what are you
proposing?
