Description

The purpose of the assignment is to make connections between the ideas in the various modules. When preparing the paper, draw on at least TWO of the MODULE presentations and at least THREE of the ASSIGNED READINGS in Modules 1 through 4. USE ONLY the materials supplied. You may draw on personal experience and observation, but the supplied material must always take precedence. No outside sources for this assignment. The essay should be 800 words or about three (12 point) typed double-spaced pages in length followed by a bibliography on the following topic. Drawing on the material, identify at least two and no more than three of the technologies and practices, past and present, that can and have threatened women’s health and wellbeing. For example, you could consider doctor’s attitudes and the general beliefs about women that have permeated society, ignoring the determinants of health, such as lack of support for the poor, inadequate drug research, medicalization, antipathy towards marginalized women such as indigenous and gay women, reproductive technologies, and so on. (These are only suggestions: you may choose your own topics.) Conclude the short paper with a suggestion about ways that these issues can be mitigated. Theoretical Perspective: When doing the analysis, base the findings one or more theoretical perspectives that is in the first four modules attached. Reference Notes: You should have approximately two reference notes per page. “MLA” “style sheet” When using one of the assigned readings cite the author of the article as a reference, e.g. (Murray, et al. 98). In the bibliography use the author’s name, title of the article and the publication data such as the journal title the article is from or the title of the book along with the date of publication. There is no exact way to cite a unit from the Manual in the bibliography and the following will suffice: author, course title, unit number and unit title (for example, Kechnie, Margaret. Women’s Health Issues, Unit 1, Why Study Women’s Health pp. 1-19). Likewise when referencing an idea from a unit simply use the Module number and page (Module 6 9). If you need examples, use any of the assigned readings as your guide. When listing articles you have used to develop your paper cite the author of the article, the title of the article and the publication data. Any essay that does not have a reference list will not be graded. Direct Quotes: Limit yourself to no more than two direct quotes.
