Satire is a style of narrative
storytelling, which uses humor and
extreme circumstances to develop
very stereotypical characters and
shows them doing funny things that

Due to what Tim Mackie calls “The

have grown up thinking that the
main part of the story of Jonah is
about him and a fish/whale. But
the truth is, the fish is only
mentioned briefly in the story.

Read the entire minor prophet book that you chose. This
should not be difficult to do in a one-hour sitting (or
less) because all the minor prophet books are relatively
short. I suggest you take notes as you read, so you do
not forget what you read. You may also use the audio
feature on BibleGateway to listen as you read.
Once you have finished, mark assignment as complete
and if you took notes, you may upload them in as a
picture or google doc.

(Assigned May 25th // DUE JUNE 5TH)
Purpose
As they say, "the best way to learn, is to teach." Therefore, the purpose of this assignment is to give
students a chance to be the teacher. They will have to read, research and present their findings about one
of the following minor prophet books of the Old Testament: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obediah, Micah,
Nahum, Habakkuk, Malachi or Zephania.
Elements of the Project
There are three mandatory elements to this project, and they are as follows:
1. Slideshow - with a Works Cited (this should be on the last slide(s) of the slide show, and in MLA
format)
2. Presentation Notes, including a one-paragraph reflection at the end
3. Video Presentation
Optional Extra Credit (25 additional points):
4. The Workbook pages for the minor prophet chosen by the student.
Instruction Checklist
Use the following checklist to help you complete this assignment (you are welcome to print this out and
physically check the boxes, so you know what you have finished and what you have left).
1. Slideshow: Each student will need to create a slideshow through Google Slides, Powerpoint, or
Canva. This slideshow should include the following:
Title slide - which includes the name of the minor prophet book you chose, student's
name, and class period
Book Genre - in one or more slides explain the minor prophet's genre (narrative, poetry,
prose discourse), and if applicable, the book's subgenre. The student must give a
definition of that genre and tell us how it is applied in the book they chose (giving
examples if necessary).
Main Characters, Places, Events - in multiple slides, include all the main characters
within the story (this can be specific people or it can mean larger groups, such as
"Israel"). Also include main places (such as Babylon). Lastly, outline the main events or
"milestones” of the book.
Focus/Theme - in one or more slides, include the main focus or theme of the book and
explain why you believe this to be the theme.
Application - in one or more slides, include how this particular book relates to us today,
in our context. Why should we care? What actions can we take in our own lives based on
what the message of the book is?
O WORKS CITED - include one or more slides with the works you cited throughout the
slideshow. THIS MUST BE IN MLA FORMAT!
2. Presentation Notes: Each student will create a Google Doc with their notes on the slideshow
they create. This should include:
All the information on the slides themselves
Additional information they will share in their Video Presentation
Reference from at least 4 sources-- (at least) one biblical source, one online source, one
book_source (e-books are okay), and one video source. You must use at least one of each
type of source, but may use more than one of each, if you so desire.
And citations of where they got all their information (including a WORKS CITED at the
end).
One-paragraph Reflection--include what you found interesting, new information you
learned, how you feel like you can incorporate what you learned in your personal life, and
how you felt your presentation went--what might you change and/or what did you do
well?
3. Video Presentation: Each student must create a video using Zoom, Google Meets, or phone
camera (.mp4), in which they can share the screen" or visibly show us their slideshow and talk
through each slide as they go, using their Presentation notes as a guide. Makes sure your
presentation follows these guidelines:
Filmed in a quiet, uninterrupted space
Audio is on and clear
The student is seen at the beginning and end of the presentation
The slideshow is presented on screen throughout the presentation and is legible
Is no less than 10 minutes long, and no more than 20 minutes long - 15 minutes is the
sweet spot!
Optional Extra Credit:
Workbook Pages: If you desire to get extra credit, complete all the blanks for the chapter of the
workbook that is titled the same as the book you chose for your project. This could be of use,
because it can be used to help you create content for your presentation.
