-Color Markers – (Optional – if you plan to include the Element of Color
somewhere in your cube)
-Scissors

Techniques/Processes
1. Print out the cube template on cardstock paper
a. Be sure you use cardstock (you can purchase some OR you can
take the copy to a Fed Ex or copier place and just buy one piece)
so that your cube with stay together
b. You can adjust the size to whatever size you would like to work with.
You can keep it the same or you could enlarge it so you will have
more room to “doodle”.
2. Plan your cube with the Elements and Principles you will use – either write
the Elements or Principles on a trash copy of your cube or very lightly on
the actual template you are using to create your cube
a. Elements & Principles (EL & PR) you will AUTOMATICALLY USE just by
completing this project have a checkmark ( ) beside it at the top
of this page
b. The EL & PR you MUST use are in BOLD at the top of this page
c. The EL & PR you do NOT have to use are marked through like this
d. The EL & PR you may choose to use are written in RED
e. PIC #1: TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR PLAN!
➢ My Example: (Plan for the cube EL & PR)
3. Do your drawings/doodles FIRST (Do NOT cut out yet!)
a. You are welcome to create your own designs/patterns/doodles or
you can Google different ideas.
i. Great source is to Google “Zentangles” and find some very
cool ideas. Zentangles is a company, but there are tons of
Zentangle patterns out on the internet
b. You may draw your designs in pencil first, if you want, but you can
also go straight to the permanent markers
c. Somewhere in your cube, include YOUR NAME in the design. You
may use your first name, last name, nickname, initials, etc. That’s
your artistic prerogative!
d. PIC #2: TAKE A PICTURE WHILE YOU’RE WORKING!
4. Once you’ve finished with your black and white designs, you are ready to
cut out the template. CUT OUT THE ENTIRE TEMPLATE – TABS AND ALL!
5. Fold and score all of the squares and tabs – It makes putting the cube
together SO much easier! Scoring simply means to pre-fold on all the lines
before you glue them.
a. PIC #3: TAKE A PICTURE AFTER YOU HAVE IT CUT AND SCORED!
➢ My Example:
6. Begin to glue the tabs and create your cube. This is usually the hardest
part….patience is needed! ☺
a. PIC #4: TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR FINISHED CUBE ALONG
WITH YOU IN THE PICTURE!
➢ My Example: (Sorry, this one doesn’t have my face, but please do as I say, not
as I do! I would love to see your face in your final picture, pretty please!)
7. Complete Artist Reflection Prompts (separate page).
8. Submit pictures and finished Artist Reflection in the Elements/Principles
Cube Project portal in Week 8.
See Rubric below for scoring.
