DESIGN AND ANALYSIS
Write a general introduction or brief outline about the content of this chapter.
5.4Requirements Analysis
Summarizing the key parameters from the Datasheet
Identify and discuss the key parameters from the datasheet of each functional unit according
to the block diagram relevant to the project. Include the key parameters, range, type of signals
(like voltages, currents, frequency, analog, digital, serial, etc.), and processes required for every
functional unit in the system.
The Datasheets defines the facts and figures that are required to meet the outcomes identified in
the project. In simple they are manufacturer intended specifications representing overall
functionality and working details of the systems.
Initial Conditions
List and discuss the initializations required for each of the functional units for hardware and
software. Include list of values, parameters, libraries, type of signals (like voltages, currents,
frequency, analog, digital, serial, etc.), and processes required for initializations of every
functional unit in the system.
Input and Output Parameters
List and discuss the input and output parameters for each functional unit. Include list of
values, parameters, and type of signals (like voltages, currents, frequency, analog, digital, serial,
etc.) for every functional unit in the system,
Relations
Determine the relation between input and output parameters for each functional unit for
meeting the expected outcome. Include the processes and formulas to convert each input
parameters to obtain output parameters (value in appropriate form and unit) for every functional
unit in the system. Formulas of signal conditioning between functional units for changing signal
level (amplification or level shifting), converting signals to different type (analog to digital,
serial, etc.), Formulas to compute resolution, accuracy, efficiency, errors, etc. and other system
performances,
Constraints
The constraints identified in the project design are technical constraints and economic
constraints. It represents some functional relationships among the design variables and other
design parameters satisfying certain physical phenomenon and certain resource limitations.
Constraints may have exact mathematical expressions or not. In most of the cases it could be
either equality or inequality type constraints.
5.5 System Test plan
Identifying test points
Identify and highlight the test points in each functional unit to determine various scenarios.
Different test points should be marked for hardware and software to check functionality.
Determine the list of measurement (values, type of signals, etc.) at each test point. Each design
test value should be compared with simulation and hardware for every functional unit.
Developing Test Plans
Test plan is to develop a list of the test cases for each test point of every functional unit. The test
plan should be in the form
System Initial Requirements
1.1.1 Initial Conditions
The initial condition for this project starts by installing the necessary software packages, for the
reason of using the Raspberry Pi the starting process it to download the recommended operating
system recommended by the vender. The beginning of this process is by using the micro SD
card to load the software from raspberry pi official website, first download NOOBs software
package in normal computer (the computer should be equipped with SD card slot) windows or
MAC can be used, next plug in the micro SD is using SD jack card and format the disk. Then
download image WIN 32 disk software then select the location of the disk and from the
downloaded NOOBS select image file and start. After that disconnect the micro SD and put into
the Raspberry memory slot. Fit the keyboard and mouse in the USB connector and plug in the
power adapter finally connect the display monitor to the HDMI connector then Power on the
raspberry.
When the booting sequence finished connect the system to the local Wi-Fi to get access to the
internet, open the terminal window and update the system by typing SUDO APT-GET
UPDATE then upgrade, this process will update the Raspberry PI to its latest software package.
On the GSM 808 also needs set up, insert standard pack SIM card, to ensure system logs to the
network disable PIN code and top up the credit on the SIM, the led blinking determine the
connectivity of the SIM when the blinking is 64 ms ON and 3000 ms OFF it means that network
is registered.
RF module ST-TX01-ASK RF transmitter and receiver connection is equipped with LED status
that indicates the unit is operating both transmitter and receiver should be able to communicate
with each other during testing the system initially power check it to be available to the unit.
Raspberry touch screen is to be connected to the GPIO and switch on the screen should be able
to display the output of the Raspberry main screen.
5.1.2 Datasheets and Input Parameters
The Raspberry PI model 3B has ARM cortex A53 CPU with 1.4GHz and 64-bits, the memory
RAM is 1GB. In addition, the communication links are Wi-Fi dual band 802.11 (2.4 GHz and 5
GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and Ethernet. The power of this unit us 5V DC with current of 2.5A, the
video is full HDMI port. The GPIO can host up to 40 pins, the operating system is Linux and
UNIX.
RF module consists of the transmitter and receiver units, both operate at the same frequency link
433 MHz, the transmitter is ST-TX01-ASK has frequency of 315/433.92 MHz without output
power of 4 -16 dBm. The voltage supply required range from 3 to 12 Volts. The receiver is STRX02-ASK module operates at frequency range from 315/434 MHz with sensitivity of -105
dBm. The current consumption of 3.5 mA.
Touch screen type raspberry pi 7 displays, this item gives the user the ability to communicate
with the raspberry pi without additional monitor and keyboard also it can be integrated with any
project easily. The display is 7 inches size has resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and has the capacity
of 10 finger touches; the power requirement for this unit is provided by the GPIO pins in the
raspberry and it consumes 2 Amps of current with 5 volt.
GSM module SIM 808 is used to communicate the system with the network, the SIM 808
operates in range of 900 to 1800 MHz to support 2G and 3G, it requires 2 Watts of power to
transmission.
5.1.3. Identifying System outcomes, Relations and Constraints
The system is fully interconnected between all sub systems through number of mediums; these
means provide full integration of the system to successfully pass the data path from and to any
sub system. The raspberry Pi is interfaced with the touch screen through GPIO of the system, this
interface provide the user with the accessibility to command the system to act according for
example to move the wheel chair forward additional commands are displayed in figure 5.1 , this
chain of interface is designed to make the relation between the user and the mechanical
movement.
Figure 5.1(LCD touch Screen)
The accessibility of the system to the internet is through the use of the GSM module which
provides the means of data connection to make the necessary coordination between the system
and user mobile phone in case of emergency proving as well the GPS coordinates as in figure
5.2. The internet also accessed through the WIFI (hotspot) this provides the system with account
log into the Google voice recognition platform used with the microphone to command the wheel
chair to do a displayed actions in figure 5.1.
Figure 5.2(connecting to the internet)
The connectivity between the system to the wheel chair is done through wireless RF module, as
system is intended to operate remotely this intern minimize the use of extra links also it gives the
user more flexibility to use. The transmitter is connected with the touch screen unit is linked with
the receiver in the wheel chair to make the movement and wheel chair setting up.
The constrain on the system that this system requires high power which in the real world should
increase the battery bank to provide efficient running time. Also using RF as interface can be
replaced with as the unit of the wheel chair is fully standalone unit RF can be discrete from the
system and replaced by normal links.
Unit Testing
The unit testing is one of the main events in the process of acceptance of the system, the standard
of v model is to have unit testing based on system design.
Test one checking of the voltage
This test involves powering up of the system and observe the output on the sub system, each
status is checked to verify working of the unit, during this step the system is operating indoor
with environment the temperature is less than 30C and humidity is less than 80%, these are ideal
condition for the system. Volt meter is used to check the power before and after for example
before 7805 IC regulator and after that.
Test two checking the wheel chair
The second test involves the mechanical rotation of the wheel chair unit, to measure division of
the wheel chair from maintaining straight line. The system operates in closed room with no
obstacle in a normal flat ground surface. The system commands to do forward then back ward to
measure the margin of error in movement these measurement errors are then corrected by tighten
or releasing the motor gears. At the same time it’s the right and left movement are measured to
check for the misalignment in the rotation of the wheels, in case of left turn the rotation of the
right motor spin forward and the left motor stops, but if the system desired to move right turn the
left motor spin forward the right motor stops. These actions are measured in motion to ensure the
mechanical movements of the system are done perfectly.
Test three checking the wi-fi connection
In this test the time the connectivity test of the system to the WIFI is measured, during this test
the access point is keep at a distance of 5 meters away from the system in a closed room same
temperature and humidity level stated in test number one, then the system is powered up the WiFi module should get the connection in less than 1 mint, this measurement is done and time taken
for the system to fully
Test four checking GSM and GPS
This test is to measure the connection of the GSM module in term of connection and getting the
network sending messages with GPS. The GSM is power up and verify its connection to the
network through the measurement of the blinking status 64 ms ON and 3000 ms OFF means the
system is connected to the network, the time it takes for the GSM to get to this stage is measured
to verify time it takes to get into the network is around 1 to 2 mints. Then system provokes to
sends emergency signal through SMS means to the user, the time it takes and accuracy of the
GPS with this massage is analyzed, to check the accuracy if not accurate enough the GPS
antenna is located in different position and test is repeated. The margin of accuracy for the GPS
is around 2.5meters as specified,
Final test checking the MIC
Testing the microphone of the system, the MIC connectivity is verified through the touch screen
in touch screen as in figure 5. , on the other hand the MIC also needs the internet to access
Google voice recognition server to give the user the command to be converted from speech to
data command for the wheel chair to establish movement, so the MIC needs the internet access
as well. During this test the user speak on the MIC the given command then measures the
response time it takes for the system to act in normal condition the system takes 5 seconds
between speech and movement action. Pairing the MIC with Raspberry
