In the introduction paragraph you will state what the experiment is about and your claims. You
will also do a quick overview of the process of how you acquired your data. Then describe the
method which you will use to analyze the data.
The body paragraphs you will go into detail how you acquired your data. If you used data from
a source you should include a “resource cited” page. Explain the method in which you decided
your claims and how you proceeded to use the data acquired to test those claims. Refer to your
graphs or tables here.
In another body paragraph describe what software was used, and the significance level used
and why. Then use technical terms to describe the results. Refer to the printout results here
and any visual aids that show distribution, correlation, or goodness-of-fit.
In another body paragraph explain any issues or errors that might have affected the results (or
the results could be as expected). Go into detail. Explain if there is any need for further
research.
In the conclusion paragraph restate the claim and the tests performed, and summarize in
simple words the results in terms of the original claims. Also explain any errors that may have
occurred. (The need for further research can be written here too)
Appendix:
• Survey questionnaire with required questions labeled
• Printout of hypothesis and confidence interval results
• Graphs and tables

If you used any sources for your paper you need to cite them here. Otherwise it will be
considered plagiarism and you will receive a zero for the project.

Analysis of the results. What did you find? Refer to your graphs
for more insight.
Conclusions. State the result in terms of the claim. Do you think
that they are reasonable? Could there be any errors? Refer to
your graphs for insight.
Further research. Do you think that there is more research
warranted? Why or why not?
Format:
The research paper should be set up with an introduction
paragraph, 2-3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In an
appendix you should have the statistical software printout
results (hypothesis tests and confidence intervals), your survey
questions with the required questions labeled and/or the raw
data in a (frequency) table, and the required graphs. These
should be labeled (ex. Figure 1 or Table 1) and referenced in the
body paragraphs.
This will also include sentence structure and grammar.

Final Project
You will use raw data (from the textbook or online, or by survey) and use hypothesis testing to
test a claim about that data.
Given Data (from textbook or online):
Find data from the book or online that you would like to make inferences on. You will need to
do a 2-proportion/mean hypothesis test and a goodness-of-fit test on the raw data. Construct a
2-proportion/mean confidence interval, and compare the results to the hypothesis test. You
will need 3 graphs (1 must be the goodness-of-fit graph) that visualize your data and refer to
them in your analysis/conclusion.
Survey:
Create two related hypotheses that you wish to study. The first hypothesis should be a one-
population hypothesis like “Test the claim that the proportion of students who drive an
alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle is greater than 10% with a 5% significance level.” The second
hypothesis should be a two-population hypothesis like “Test the claim that the proportion of
male students who drive an alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle is greater than the proportion of
female students who drive an alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle with a 5% significance level.”
Create a five-question questionnaire that will provide you with the data necessary to complete
your hypothesis test. Two of the five questions are the required questions that provide the
actual data to analyze. Three of the five questions are extra questions that are related to the
topic designed to serve as distractions from the real questions. For example:
Do you drive an alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle? Yes or No. (circle one). (Required)
Are you Male or Female (circle one). (Required)
Do you plan to buy an alternative fuel or hybrid vehicle? Yes or No. (circle one). (Extra)
How many miles per gallon does your current vehicle get?
(Extra)
How often do you “fill your tank” now?
(Extra)
You may collect data using Facebook or Instagram, and still assume random sampling. Get at
least 30 responses.
You will need to construct a 1- and 2-proportion/mean confidence interval. And discuss the
results obtained from those to the results of the respective hypothesis test. You will need 2
graphs that visualize your data and refer to them in your analysis/conclusion.
