My Answer:
Effects of Alcoholism
Alcoholism has been on the rise in recent years resulting in more people along with
their families suffering, thus making the issue alarming. I chose alcoholism because of my
aspiration to become a therapist, thus providing me with a chance of dealing with the victims.
The understanding of the topic requires the collection of quantitative data from primary and
secondary means. Combination of data allows for the development of comprehensive data,
thus ensuring the supporting of the study by an excellent backdrop. The collected data, along
with its justification applies to the hypothetical working environment. From the presented
data, one finds that alcoholism results in several families suffering, either directly or
indirectly, resulting in loss of stability and balance in families.

My final project talks about how children, teens, and adolescents that spend too much
time on social media, have a higher risk of having depression and anxiety. Even though it
has been researched and proven that even two hours a day can put our younger people at
risk, some parents have no concern. My workplace is Daddy Daycare and our facilities
will not allow children, teens, or adolescents to use social media at any of our facilities.
We are also encouraging parents to limit usage at home for 60-90 minutes daily. We
must look out for our future generation of leaders.

My final project covers the glaring problem of Obesity in the Army and offers one
solution on how that might be corrected. More than half of the Army is overweight and
this fact seriously degrades the readiness of the Army to do its mission. I believe one of
the best long-term solutions is the adoption, education, and implementation of the
ketogenic diet.

My final project is a study based on substantiated research on how a four day work week
has increased benefits for both the employer and employee. Research and surveys have
been used in real world corporations both in the United States and overseas that have
shown some surprisingly positive results. I also decided that it would be important to list
a minor set of drawbacks in order to keep my presentation fair and unbiased if I were to
present this to the CEO and other high level staff within my company. The good thing
about selecting this as my topic early on was that there was no shortage of information
and research that had already been conducted and applied in real scenarios lending
credibility to my research and presentation.

Good day all,
For the final project I researched recycling reusable pallet boards to suggest
changes in the way excess pallets are currently disposed of on local U.S. Navy
installations. Since man hours seems to be a common metric for Navy speak the
presentation centered around reducing man hours which in turn correlates to other
expense and cost reductions. The presentation metrics are hypothetical, however,
the topic data can easily be modified to reflect actual application. This could
actually turn into a part-time job in the future for some aspiring entrepreneur.
Possibly consider your local area to determine if there is viability for becoming a
pallet board broker. Best to all on your projects.

My research findings for my final project help combine three communications based
military occupational specialties (jobs) into one master MOS the M25U. Cutting cost is a
big issue in the military, especially with Congress led Budget Committees happening
every year. Its all in the name of getting the best bang for your buck for the American
people. I researched ways to combine these schools into one saving hundred of
thousands of dollars per year. The Master 25U program combines knowledge from 25B Information Technology Specialist, 25C – Radio Operator-Maintainer, and 25U – Signal
Support Systems Specialist.

My final project is on retention in the Army National Guard. The biggest issue I see in
this is how the leadership treats their soldiers like a number not a person. In the current
environment the Army National Guards numbers are dwindling. Yet the only data that is
being reported is numbers and categories not actual reasons as to why soldiers are
leaving the service prior to completing 20 years. I believe this to be a preliminary study
that will need more data collected down to the individual soldiers.

The project I selected was the Citizens Police Academy. I selected this because I believe
that knowledge is power, and anyone who supports Law Enforcement as a whole should
certainly experience a Citizens Police Academy because it shows you exactly what Police
Officers are trained in. Now granted, it varies from state to state but generally everything
is around the same timeframe along with the selected classes. Now while it doesn’t give
people the authority to police, it certainly gives individuals the knowledge as to why
LEOs do what they do.

Good afternoon,
My project focuses on updating a website for military Veterans applying for jobs. I
noticed several websites have a hard time pinpointing what a Veterans Military
Occupational Speciality (MOS) transfers into the civilian world. I used Los Angeles
County as a example and pulled the data of their budget for this year and last as a
comparison to make the necessary changes in the website. I also used statistics of the
Bureau of Labor. To make sure it all works we will be doing a feedback survey to make
sure it meets the needs of our customers.

Good afternoon, I used a power point presentation for my last assignment. I wanted to
show that research applied to a simple presentation is best. I cover two forms of
research, polling and internet research. I believe that research is really valued when it
can be applied to a decision making process. My presentation is formatted to brief the
staff of my Yoga studio. I cover the problematic situation, the corrective course of action
and my conclusion to tell the staff what has happened and what we will be doing moving
forward. Thank you for your time.

Course Reflection
Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length.
Consider all the topics we have addressed throughout this course. Think about the
connections you have made with your classmates and your instructor. Look back
at all you have created over the past eight weeks.
What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in this class?
What more do you feel you need to know?
If you give one piece of advice to a student first entering this course, what would
it be?
How do you think what we have accomplished over the past eight weeks will
help you throughout the rest of your degree program and/or in your professional
life?
My Answer:
This class has been filled with a lot of new things and experiences in technical writing.
The one thing I feel I learned the best was how to perform research and using it in one’s projects.
I learned how to research business aspects before making essential decisions. Moreover, I wish
to learn more about formats. Although we wrote a letter, a resume, and other documents, we did
not focus much on the formats and I feel they are important. My advice to anyone joining this
course is for them to remain open to creativity and welcome critical thinking; it is required in
forming the imaginary business and the proposal. The imaginary business and proposal imitated
a real business and I think the experience will help me in running my own business because the
mock business I came up with is something I have always wanted to do.

What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in this class?
Of what I have learned taking this course, I have to say that knowing your target
audience and keeping their needs in mind while writing is the most important
thing I have learned in this course. I have come to the realization that so many
times in my past writing, I was writing to please my own wants and desires, and
while that is still the ultimate goal of the writing training we got in this class, this
class has taught me how to better get my readers to understand what I am
hoping for them to understand from my writing by catering the their needs
instead of my own.
What more do you feel you need to know?
One of the things about this class that I had some trouble with and still feel I need
to better myself with is knowing the proper format of the paper, letter, etc that I
am trying to create. For this class, if I didn’t have an outline to go by for different
things, I don’t feel I would have been able to complete majority of the
assignments and even then, there were a few times I still wasn’t sure if I was
doing what was asked of me at the time.
If you give one piece of advice to a student first entering this course, what would
it be?
First of all, drop all expectations and ideas you have about this course, because
I’m pretty sure their wrong, or at least they were for me. Additional advice, but in
this course and a few other online only courses, I have had to remind myself that
all communication is written, and to make sure that the communications you
send portray what your wanting them to. It’s very easy to portray the wrong
attitude or feelings over written communications if your not careful.
How do you think what we have accomplished over the past eight weeks will
help you throughout the rest of your degree program and/or in your professional
life?
I can honestly say that this course is already helping me in my current
employment and I assume it will with the rest of my classes as well. I feel my
emails are more professional and I have a stronger confidence in my
communications at work.
This class has been a pleasure this last 8 weeks and I hope you all have a good
rest of your studies.

Greetings Classmates!
Week 8 has arrived and quicker than I anticipated it would! I’m sure I am not the only one
that completely misjudged this class leading up to week 1. I have been surprised at how
much I have enjoyed this course and the amount I have learned that I can actually take away
and put to immediate use! I want to say a special thank you to Professor Teicheira and
those of you that took the time to comment on and critique my weekly discussion posts. All
of your input allowed me to be successful during this term. Now to get into the subject
matter of this weeks discussion!
What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in this class?
I would have to say that the most important thing that I have learned and will take away
from this class is Reader Analysis. Paying attention to who your readers are, how they
think, what they need to hear, and how they need to hear it DRASTICALLY changes the
writing process. Knowledge of the readers determines how the information you are
sharing gets formatted and delivered. This has already started to pay dividends in my
professional career.
What more do you feel you need to know?
This is a loaded question in my mind. I feel like there is plenty more I need to know
regarding everything covered in this course. What we have just spent the past 8 weeks
working on is just scratching the surface of writing. It is easy to build confidence in a
learning environment, it is how we respond to potential roadblocks and failures as we
implement what we have learned into practice that will truly provide the answer to this
question.
If you give one piece of advice to a student first entering this course, what would
it be?
There are so many pieces of advice that can be given. For me, I would have to say the one
piece of advice I would give to a student first entering this course would be: “Don’t Over
Think”. This is something I do far to often and it caused me to fear this class entering into
week 1. Just because the course title has the word Technical in it, doesn’t mean it will be
difficult.
How do you think what we have accomplished over the past eight weeks will
help you throughout the rest of your degree program and/or in your professional
life?
I feel what has been accomplished over the past 8 weeks will absolutely help me moving
forward in my degree program and it is already paying dividends in my professional
life. What I have learned in this course will make the creation of many of the documents for
the remainder of my courses easier to generate. I have already used what has been learned
in this course to assist me in the preparation of two Project Proposals I am working on for
my current job. If I am successful with either of them, it could have the potential for big
changes and opportunities in my career with the DoD moving forward.
In closing, I wish all of you the absolute best of luck in the remainder of your studies and in
your future endeavors. For those of you that are going to use the portfolios we created this
term as a catalyst to getting your “Mock” Business launched, I wish you all much success
moving forward! I know I will be modifying and enhancing my portfolio. Getting back into
the Fireworks business has been on my to-do list for the last 15 years and one day it will be
a reality!

Hello everyone! I cannot believe that week 8 is already here. Thank you to everyone who has
helped me, especially Professor Teicheira.
What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in this class?
I have learned so much in the past 8 weeks that it took me awhile to wrap my head around
this question. The one thing that stands out the most is how I respond professionally in my
writings. Before this class, I didn’t think twice about what I was writing to my collegues but
now I check my vocabulary, analyze my readers response, and use the correct formatting.
The techniques that I have learned in this class will help me in my current career, my
academic career, and any future careers that I may pursue.
What more do you feel you need to know?
I feel like the one aspect of the class that I could focus more on would be writing reports.
This was probably the one week that I felt like I struggled the most and could use a lot more
practice with it. I feel like I need to practice sorting through my information and conducting
correct research to include in my reports.
If you give one piece of advice to a student first entering this course, what would it be?
My advice to future students would be to read the textbook and ask for help when needed.
There is so much valuable information in the textbook which can seem overwhelming at
first but once you start to work through it, you can find that it holds the answers to many
different problems that you will encounter along the way. While I wish there were more
examples to help guide us, the book offers plenty of helpful tips and information. I would
also encourage the student to ask for help when needed. There were times that I found
myself stuck in a rut and Professor Teicheira helped me work through my thoughts. Your
instructors can’t help you if you don’t communicate.
How do you think what we have accomplished over the past eight weeks will help you
throughout the rest of your degree program and/or in your professional life?
This class will help in so many different ways. The resume portion of this course is so
beneficial because this is something we can use in our professional lives and as we
encounter new careers. We can make adjustments as our life changes through the
techniques and formatting that this course has taught us.
Thank you again for all of your help and good luck to everyone as we finish out this final
week.

The photo above says it all. Guitars hang on the walls all over my home
office. My lifelong dream was to build and sell custom guitars. This course
rekindled my motivation to pursue this dream.
What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in
this class?
The utmost important things I have learned is teamwork, trust, consistency
and vetting of sources. Another important subject was gearing the writing to
specific target audiences, which help me focus my writings. The consistent
theme throughout the course was how to cope with the target audience of the
writings.
What more do you feel you need to know?
Document formatting tips. Often, styles and templates don’t like when you try
something that does not fit the template. Also, merging documents. We often
must put many different document formats together and the formatting often
turns the document into a mess.
If you give one piece of advice to a student first entering this course,
what would it be?
Stick to topics you love and have good knowledge of. If you have no idea
what quantum physics is, stay away. If you love collecting pottery, you have a
hit! If you hate politics, stay away. If you love hiking, you have a hit! Stick to
subjects that you are comfortable persuading people with. It is much easier
researching and writing about topics that you are interested in.
How do you think what we have accomplished over the past eight weeks
will help you throughout the rest of your degree program and/or in your
professional life?
Much of my degree and professional work requires intensive technical
knowledge, corporate level writings and presentations. I think this course has
significantly improved my understanding of the core concepts behind great
technical writing. I can assure you that I have already used many of these
new concepts in my daily work.
Thank you all for the great discussions and I wish you great success in your
programs. I am sure that we will bump into each other again.
Another Response: (Jonathan Posey)
What is the most important thing you have learned or experienced in this class?
One of the most important concepts that I have learned is the proper way to set up and write a
properly structured letter or memo to relay important information in the workplace so that it
sounds professional and gets the attention that it needs. As well as the way to set up the
structured in the sentence that is proper instead of jargon and slag. In this way, it is a professional
letter or a memo depending on the forms or policy that need to be relayed the rest of the
employees. How the words can make it either work appropriate or personal letter.
What more do you feel you need to know?
One thing is coming up with a better strategy in planning a list or brainstorming to figure out the
best way to write a book to sell and make money off it. Whether it is a novel for fun or a
technical on how to a book like on my journey from my earliest memories with ADHD and how
I have learned different trick and tip…
