Dear Future Doctor of Business Administration Student,

It is my pleasure to provide you insight about the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at Liberty University. As a current doctoral student at Liberty, I would recommend you review the website to explore the available programs and the course layout to determine the best cognate to align with your professional goals. The website has a wealth of material about cost estimates, various tuition discounts, and other financial alternatives. Furthermore, there is descriptive information comparing and contrasting the DBA program with the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program and the relevance of both degrees in the real world. Most importantly, please read through the Doctor of Business Administration handbook for a complete understanding of what the program entails and the guidelines, which will help set your expectations before applying for admission to the doctoral program. If there are any additional questions or concerns after navigating through the website, Liberty has academic advisors and online chat agents available and willing to assist you.

Additionally, I would recommend reviewing the courses from your master’s degree program. Liberty will grant students up to 15 transfer credit hours for courses directly related to the courses in the doctoral program. For instance, personally, I was able to transfer over nine credit hours from my master’s program, which made me exempt from taking three of the four required cognate classes. Therefore, it is worth looking into because it can save you valuable time and lower the overall cost of tuition.

My last recommendation would be to invest in reliable technological equipment and services. Liberty’s DBA degree is an online curriculum for the entire length of the program, which could last up to seven years. To survive the progression of the doctoral program, you will need a good computer with Microsoft Office, a flash drive with ample storage capacity, and a dependable source for internet service. These components will assist you in accessing courses, submitting assignments, communicating with faculty and peers, conducting research, saving valuable data, participating in educational webinars, and completing a list of other important required tasks. Be sure to check with Liberty’s Information Technology (IT) department for resources that may be included in the tuition or available for a reasonable fee.

As far as advice, it is imperative to be committed to your purpose for pursuing a doctorate and make sure it agrees with God’s purpose for your life. Job 42:2 (NIV) states “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted”. Your God given purpose coupled with prayer is what will motivate you to continue the doctoral program through the rough times. The program is thorough and requires a lot of time and sacrifice, along with some tough decisions. There will be moments when your emotions will take the lead and produce thoughts of quitting the program, so it is imperative to know your true purpose for investing your time and money. Remember we are all human and facing challenges in life is an event no one can avoid.

Next, depending on the dynamics of your home, my advice would be to build you a great support team. A plan must be mapped out to include your schedule from the start of the degree to the end. Additionally, the plan should give an overview of what each semester would look like considering all of your normal responsibilities and frequently updated. It is a good idea to share your plan with your support team, so they can get a visual of your schedule and help lighten your load. The support team is a critical piece to your success because they will sacrifice for you, listen to your frustrations, and encourage you throughout the program.

Lastly, making social connections with faculty members and students in your discipline of studies is another great asset for doctoral success. Institutional relationships are necessary for receiving guidance, completing assignments, mentorship, and especially important in the dissertation process. The academic professors provide positive affirmations and constructive feedback, which reminds you the goals you have are achievable. Furthermore, you share similar experiences in the doctoral journey with your peers and it gives you a sense of belonging. Overall, the doctoral alumnus imparts educational wisdom, while the presence of peer groups offers additional inspiration for everyone until the end of the program.

In closing, Liberty is a great institution to consider and they genuinely care about the quality of education given to each student. I pray this information can assist you in making the right decision for the next chapter in your life. Always seek God’s approval first and everything else will fall into place.

Many Blessings,

Shamia Wynn
