According to what was read in Unit 6, cognitive dissonance is the concept that most caught my attention. This psychological concept refers to the fact that a situation generates two different thoughts or behaviors that will conflict with internal beliefs or principles. This also can happen when you have to beliefs and one contradicts the other. For example, a person who has a bad habit to eat fast food ( behavior) and they know that eating fast food causes them obesity (cognition). That would develop them in a state of cognitive dissonance.

Dead to me is an American series that has many scenes and situations in which cognitive dissonance is evident. Judy one of the protagonists goes in the car with her husband driving. It is very dark, it’s raining and they accidentally run over a man. The couple goes into shock, she wants to go and see how she can help the man. Her husband yells at her that she is stupid and that they have to go and run away. There at that moment, Judy enters a state of cognitive dissonance, because she lets herself be guided by the orders from his husband. He is pressing and screaming at her. But inside her, her principles and her conscience she wants to help him. Finally, she ignored her heart and they end up running away trying to cover up all the crime.

Discussion #2!

According to Hank Green, from Crash Course Psychology, social Loafing is the tendency for people in a group to exert less effort when pooling their efforts toward attaining common goal than when individually accountable. (Crash Course Psychology #38). Basically, is how people feel more comfortable doing something with help of other/others, maybe because whatever he/she does not know, the other or other may know it, so in this way, everything became easier. There is a saying that people commonly use, “Two brain works better than one”, and that Is where the Social Loafing applies.

Social Loafing is shown several times In “The Social Network”, a movie about Mark Zuckerberg and his former friend Andrew Garfield, based in the book “The Accidental Billionaires” in this movie they try to explain all about Zuckerberg legal problems and a little be of the history of Facebook, but in the minute 1:27 of the movie, they show an event in which “Social Loafing is more obvious. A group of friends was coding programming which is basically a way of creating software programs, but because they were doing it in a group, and they had a lot of distractions automatically it is a Social Loafing sociological concept.
