thanks 5. The
rest of the week we will start building a mobile phone app for Android using MIT’s
App Inventor.
Be sure to check out the MIT APP Inventor website which has many resources and serves
as a web based online tool that can be used to quickly create Android Apps without the
need of a lot of complex coding. http://appinventor.mit.edu/ It’s a great way to build a quick App for
an android phone without the need to know all of the details.
For this topic, be sure to complete the following:
1. Check out the “Get Started” section further down the page on the app inventor website for an overview;
AND/OR if you want to install and setup the emulator if you want to test your apps if you don’t have an
Android based phone. Be sure to go through this section to get more familiar with App inventor. If you have
an android device, you can transfer your apps to the device to test it (but you may need to enable 3rd party
software so be careful what you install). If you don’t have an android device or want to use your own device,
just use the emulator instead.
2A. Go through the Tutorial section (http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/tutorials) and complete one of
the “Basic”/ Beginner Apps to get a feel for how things work. You can submit your final APK file or if you are
having problems packaging or running the emulator you can instead submit screen shots of your code and
design screen.
2B. Submit one completed simple app or intermediate app from 2A.
3. Next
complete one of the Advanced or Intermediate Apps (or a variation/
combination). You can give your final APK file or if you are having problems packaging
then you can submit screen shots of your code and design screen. There is a list of
tutorials here if you can find it on the page: http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/tutorials
