Scope & Project Description:
Pre-mature (“preemies”) babies have poorly developed body temperature regulation
systems. To accommodate for this, preemies are placed in incubators that help to
maintain a target core body temperature. However, the heat applied is dependent upon
the baby’s own body temperature. To test an incubator design, a sample core body
temperature data set is needed. For this project, you are asked to develop this data set
using Matlab.
Matlab Problem:
A 2-week old premature baby needs to be fed every 3 hours (8 times per day).
Between feedings, the baby’s core body temperature varies sinusoidally with a mean
temperature of 37 degrees Celsius +/- 2 degree fluctuations. Feeding causes the body
temperature to increase (lag of 1 hour to peak).
Generate 6 hours of simulated core body temperature for the premature baby in
Matlab that includes a 1-degree Celsius of (a) uniform noise and (b) Gaussian noise.
Compute the (1) mean, (2) standard deviation, (3) minimum and maximum
temperatures, (5) plot the temperature vs time curves for both (a) and (b), and also
plot a histogram of both (a) and (b).
Deliverable:
Provide a 1-2 page summary containing a write-up of the following:
1) Objective of the project (1-2 clearly stated sentences)
2) Description of algorithms (i.e. pseudo-code)
3) Results (contains tables, graphs, etc.)
4) Key findings
5) Conclusions
6) Attach your code with your submission.
