A fast food company has about 90 restaurants in the Midwest. Those stores are divided into
three Regions, each managed by a Regional Manager. The company marketing team proposed a
new marketing program to help improve sales. This program offers each customer a small card
like a lottery card except that the card offers a trivia question with four possible answers. Each
answer has a small circle next to it with a coating which can be scratched off with a coin or
something similar. If the customer successfully answers the question by scratching off the
correct circle, then the customer gets a specified menu item for free.
This program will be tested in Region 1, with the rest of the company as a control group.
Region 1’s percentage sales increases for the next 10 weeks need to be compared with the rest
of the company to see if Region 1 experienced a significant sales improvement. The sales
improvements are measured in percentage increase from corresponding weeks from last year.
Below is the data from the first 10 weeks of the promotion. Test at 95% confidence.
