The Beauty and The Beast ?Movie Review 75 pts. SLO
Please select and watch a movie of your choosing. Write a 3-5 page, double spaced (and dont get crazy with the margins) sociological review of the movie based on the guidelines listed below. This is an academic paper and you should refrain from using persona and first-person pronouns except in your conclusion where you can discuss your personal opinion on the movie. You will submit paper via D2L.
Guidelines:
1. Synopsis of the movie:
Storyline and plot of the movie, what is the timeframe/ historic context of the movie, main or pertinent characters in the movie; Keep this part short!
2. General assessment of the movie:
How was the story presented; flashbacks, particular characters point of view, ect.
Do you think the film maker had a specific intention for this movie? Did they succeed in doing it? (This may not apply to all movies)
Specific scenes or occurrences that stood out as important to the development of the story or how you understood it?
Major points of the movie? Secondary points?
Any unintended consequences of the movie? (May not apply to all movies)
3. Specific assessment of the movie:*
Please select 5 concepts from the textbook. Define these concepts and explain how they are illustrated in the movie. What impression is the movie trying to give about this concept? Does it challenge societal views of it? Does the movie serve as a call to change it/them? How did sociology help you better understand this movie?
4. Conclusion:
Overall impact of the movie on reviewer; did you like the movie?
What did you learn…and/or…how did it enhance your understanding?
What is your recommendation about the movie?
What would you suggest people keep in mind while viewing it?
At the end of the semester you will turn this paper into a PowerPoint presentation and share with the class. You can incorporate my feedback and any additional points you have considered since you first wrote the paper in the presentation. The presentation is a separate assignment and is worth 40 points. In order to complete the presentation you must turn in the paper.
Notes: This is not a 3-5 page personal review of the movie, the majority of the points awarded for the paper will be for the analysis of concepts. Do not leave this out of the paper. This paper is also not designed to be a 3-5 page plot summary. Summarize quickly then move on to analysis.
