CES 2019: The expanding door that fights parcel thieves
CES is the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer
technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies
for 50 years -the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the
marketplace. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), it attracts
the world’s business leaders and pioneering thinkers.
An innovation showcased at CES 2019 was a solution to parcel theft. In some countries, courier
companies often deliver parcels at the doorsteps of people as the latter are at work and nobody is
at home. Unfortunately, some thieves take advantage of the situation to steal these parcels. The
innovation described here was displayed in January at the CES tech expo in Las Vegas, and it
represents a solution to this theft problem.
The Innovation consists of an expanding door that locks away small parcels and calls the police
if larger ones are stolen. Its developers suggest the innovation is more secure than Amazon’s own
solution to the problem of parcel thieves. It looks a bit clunky and requires a fairly large hallway,
but Chris Fox tried out the invention to see if it worked in practice. Watch a demonstration at:
