disscusion question
Must answer question for my personal discussion post aswell as reply to student one below!
Find a post (or post a link to) a concept of Communication in Film (photo, short video, brief piece of writing, song, etc — that no one else in the class has posted to the blog yet) related to dealing with coronavirus. You may write about films, songs, etc dealing with isolation, exile, and illness. No two posts can be identical; you must choose a different film from your classmates.
I am flexible about choices. You may address isolation, alienation, and other themes associated with COVID-19.

In thinking about dealing with COVID and the various changes in the environment, I thought about the music video “Stuck with you” by Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. The outbreak of the disease caused many negatives in the world through the disastrous health effects and world economic changes. While many people were mandated to stay within their homes, in hopes to prevent the spread of the disease, people had to change their daily routine. In times when families are “stuck” within their house and have to have constant interaction, there could be instances of arguments and raised tempers. The positive to the situation is how families and couples in relationships can overcome this scenario. For instance, the song highlights this factor by denoting “Woah. Baby, come take all my time. Go on, make me lose my mind. We got all that we need here tonight.” This insinuates that the couple is stuck within their environment together and can either “lose” their mind through differences or being together. The music video is a compilation of families and couples, including the singers themselves, in a time of isolation from society and being together. This was present during COVID due to the various mandates instilled in the peak seasons, which is also mentioned within the song, “There’s nowhere we need to be, no, no, no. I’ma get to know you better. Kinda hope we’re here forever. There’s nobody on these streets. If you told me that the world’s endin’. Ain’t no other way that I can spend it.” The artists use these lyrics to show how they are going to make the best out of their situation and this is hinted at in the music video as families are dancing together and seem to get more familiar with each other. In addition, the music video uses the effect of video montages from various people to convey the message that while in isolation families can stay together. This is confirmed by the denotation that “visual montages arrange shots to express meanings not contained in any single shot taken in isolation” (Prince, 2014). This means that if the music video used only one shot showing the singers in isolation there would be no emotional meaning being conveyed or the theme of families and couples being together would be missing.
