Gender Pay Inequality
The gender pay gap is a persistent feature in the global workforce. Even though pay
inequality has reduced in several countries due to the establishment of laws that foster equal
pay, the progress has been slow, thus the continued persistence of the problem (Brynin,
2017). The progress in the pay inequality is evident in several countries as women earn
significantly higher wages. The pay inequality has reduced because of women’s progress in
educational qualification and their participation in the workplace as well as the slow rising
rate in men’s wages (Miller, 2017). The steady rate of narrowing the pay gap between 1960
and 2017 saw the expectations of pay equity achieved in 2059. However, the stalling of the
progress in recent years has seen more questions developed regarding achieving equal pay.
According to Miller (2017), the continued slow rate experienced since 2001 means women
will achieve pay equity after 2106. Women have suffered from the pay gap since it persists in
most of the activities they engage themselves in after leaving the workforce. Employers use
the individual’s salary history to establish a basis for the current wages (Miller, 2017). It
shows that the pay gap may continue for a while, even as women find ways to narrow the
gap.
