Dublin Institute of Technology Design and Layout of Particular Building of Ballmorris Secondary School Project Presentation Requirements

You should present the assignment submission in a soft plastic A4-size folder. The text should preferably be word-processed; one and a half spacing; font style Times New Roman; font size 12.
Your submission should be around 15 pages in length (excluding appendices). You are allowed a leeway of plus or minus 2 pages.
Any scaled drawings should be at most A3-size, and done in ink on plain white paper suitably folded for incorporation in the A4-size submission folder. CAD generated drawings are acceptable in this assignment. Do NOT present any drawings loose or in a tube.
You must reference any source material using the Harvard Method of referencing.

The Context
This section outlines the brief and presentation requirements for the assignment. It is
critical you consult it thoroughly and follow the advice contained in these pages.
The overall aim of this assignment is to enable you to develop your ability to identify,
diagnose and evaluate building technology and prepare and present proposals to
rectify them.
The issues featured in the assignment cover much of the subject matter of this
module. They have been designed to allow you to build up information and
knowledge as the project develops. Where there is a lack of data, you should make
assumptions of your own so that you can complete the tasks satisfactorily. Where
such assumptions are provided, these should be made with sound reasoning and
common sense, and may require substantial in a later part of your submission.
The items included in the main body of the assignment submission must be your own
material and be the result of your own research and efforts. However, in any
appendices you may include extracts from relevant literature such as information from
trade catalogues and other sources. Submissions that involve direct copying from a
fellow student and other forms of plagiarism shall be failed.

Task 1
The Fire Regulations are a major consideration in the design and construction of any
building. Using part B of the Technical Guidance Document and the project drawings
illustrate the areas of the fire regulations that need to be considered in the design and
construction of this building. In your answer you may recommend products were
necessary.

Task 2
The Architect has asked that the concrete mix designs have some percentage of
GGBS (Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag) contained within them. Detail the
benefits of using GGBS and detail if all elements will have equal percentages of
GGBS. As a main contractor do you have any concerns in using GGBS.

As indicated in the study papers this assignment will be marked out of 100. Marking
will be based on the following criteria:
• Presentation( Format, grammar, graphics, references, page count)

Graphics ( Drawings, Sketches, photographs, calculations, charts)
40 weighting
Personal reflection ( Quality of critique, including initiative and effort)

The submission date for this assignment will be posted on the notice board, any late
submissions will be deducted marks as per the school rules. These rules will be
strictly adhered to and circumstances (e.g printer not working, disc breaking,
computer crashing,) will not be entertained.
