PEER POST 1:
CNN Rhetorical Discussion
“As more Americans head out, 22 states are seeing jumps in new coronavirus cases”,
written by Christina Maxouris and Holly Yan. There were also contributions from
Jacqueline Howard, Arman Azad, and Elizabeth Cohen from CNN.
The article is an informative piece of COVID 19 cases are increasing as more
restrictions by decrease and protests. The authors are breaking it down into several
areas focusing on what may show reasons for increasing cases. It continues and
shows how there were 22 states showing uptrends, 20 states staying the same, and
eight staying about the same over the last week. Florida is the highest amount of new
cases. The WHO, World Health Organization, directed reported that last Sunday was
the most cases reported worldwide.
With the shut down of major economic and social areas showed the help the
cases stay as low as they did. With the pressure of economic and health care
infrastructure collapses, Governers must weigh the best way to continue the lifestyle of
their states. Protests are potential causes of increasing cases. Doctors ask that
protestors try and keep a safe distance and wear a mask. More inland states are now
starting to increase in their cases for COVID 19. It seems while the big coastal cities
were getting struck with coronavirus, the inland states were not. Lastly, the authors
write about a drug that helped with treating ebola. Studies are starting to show positive
results to decrease COVID19 hospital patients’ stay in treatment centers. There is a
push for an increase of this drug to be manufactured. There may be a lower amount
made due to a lack of supplies.
The authors use information from many influential sources. They also continue
not to point blame towards one reason, but their potential seems to be many in this
article. CNN writes to inform does not seem to slant towards political sides. A targeted
audience is a person that wanted a short and informative potential reason why there is
an increase in cases this week.
PEER POST 2:
‘Angles’ in Hell is an article written by Jessica Silver-Greenberg, Katherine Rosman,
Sapna Maheshwari and James B. Stewart. In this article the authors are trying to show
the true image of Victoria Secret to the world. The authors mainly focus on how the
higher people in the company sexually abuse the models and female workers
throughout the years. This was published on February 1, 2020. The sexual harassment
and gender abuse pursuit the authors to write about the issue in the article. There are
many targeted audiences the authors intended to target. The first target are the people,
the authors wanted the people to know the dark things that happens inside Victoria’s
Secret sessions. The second targeted audience is the main heads of the company. In
the article the authors show how the higher status people treat others below them.
There’s nothing wrong with undergarments, yet there are such a significant number of
things wrong with the manner in which the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show presents
generalization as sexual opportunity so as to make a benefit. The article also states that
any model that complains about the abuse will get retaliation. It’s hard to believe, but it’s
true. Victoria’s Secret’s mystery is that women are still objects to be looked at instead of
individuals who get things done. The author also includes “The critics focused on the
company’s lack of “diversity” and “inclusivity.” ‘Angels’ in Hell: The Culture of Misogyny
Inside Victoria’s Secret. A Times investigation found widespread bullying and
harassment of employees and models. The company expresses “regret.”
