University of Southern California World Bank Population Data Analysis You are going to write a two page paper, 12 point type, double-spaced, paper analyzing population data from the World Bank website.

Go to the World Bank website at http://www.worldbank.org/
You are going to collect data from three very different countries, the world, plus the U.S. for 1) birth rate, crude (per 1000 people), 2) age dependency ratio, old (percent of working age population), and 3) population, ages 65 and above (percent of total). You are also going to create graphs of the data you obtain for the three countries, the world and the U.S.. The website will do this for you, if you click on the names of the three countries to select them. You will find the data for the world by scrolling down to the bottom portion of the alphabetical list of countries. You will find the World after Zimbabwe. You will attach the three graphs (for birth rate, age dependency, old (percent of working age population, and population ages 65 and above (percent of total)) showing the data from your three countries, the World, plus the U.S. to your paper. The graphs do not count towards the two-page length. We want you to pick at least one developing country to compare. You can use the list of developing countries as designated by the United Nations (attached below) to choose a developing country.
For birth rate, crude (births per 1000 people), click on one of the two following links. The first link gives you the data by country in table form, and the second link gives you a map you can click on to get the data for a particular country. Choose whichever method works best for you.

Tell us why you think things play out the way they do? Explain and analyze the data trends. For example, what societal conditions are affecting the data? What is making the data change over time?

Most people who lose points on this assignment either did not include the graphs, or did not discuss the data and compare it to the U.S. Another mistake we see is that people did not collect the data set to show trends over time – the data you collect should cover data over a 50+ year period, not just a single timepoint or two time points.

Do I need to graph the U.S. data separately?

No, you can include the U.S. on your graph of each data set, so that you will have three graphs total.

Can I categorize the countries by development status (underdeveloped, developing, developed)?

Yes, this is a great idea.

Can I go over the page limit for this assignment?

Yes, that is OK. We do not deduct points if your assignment is over the page limit.

Are the three graphs part of the page limit? Where should I put the graphs?

No, the graphs do not count towards the page limit. You can put the graphs at the end of the assignment, or you can include them in the paper next to your discussion of each data set. You should have everything in one document.

Do I need to have references or a citation to the World Bank data website?

No, we are not requiring references or citations on this assignment.
