Case Study

Supplying Fast Fashion

Contrast the approaches taken by H&M, Benetton and Zara in managing their supply chains. Consider the following focus points:

1. How do they differ in terms of their approach to design stage of the supply chain?
2. How do they differ in terms of the manufacturing stage of the supply chain?
3. How do they differ in terms of the distribution stage of the supply chain?
4. How do they differ in terms of the retail stage of the supply chain?
5. For each brand, Identify and explain a SCM strategy or trend utilized in its supply chain.
6. In your opinion, which of the three companies have the best SCM and why?

Analyze the “supplying Fast Fashion” case study and present your analysis in a report. You are encouraged to use online sources to support your analysis/recommendation.

The report should address ALL the questions raised in the case study (The 6 points /questions above). Please use appropriate headings and subheadings where necessary.

The report should consist of the following sections:

1. Title page

2. Executive Summary (50-100 words):

• Overview/synopsis in nutshell of the whole report
• Main issues/problems of the case
• Findings
• Format
• It is better to write after finishing the whole report.

3. Introduction:

• Brief background of the company or business situation of the case.

Products, Customers, Size of the company (small, medium, large), No. of employees, Operational details, Region, Turnover etc.

• Brief overview of the situation, associated issues / problems.
• Purpose / objective of the report.
• Scope and limitations – what issues are covered, and what issues are not covered and why
• Outline of the structure of report – how rest of the report is structured.

4. Discussion (50-75% of totals words):

• Answer the questions
• Address the problem / issue of operations in detail
• Analyze problem/issue of operations showing reflection of course contents and support your argument from the literature
• Analyze present operations performance measures, if applicable
• Evaluate alternative solutions / suggestions considering operations management theoretical ideas, concepts, tools and techniques
• Provide evidence from literature in support of solution / suggestions and recommendations.

5. Conclusion & Recommendations:

• Outline likely outcomes of the evaluation and infer to conclusion
• Evaluate alternative solutions / suggestions considering operations management theoretical ideas, concepts, tools and techniques.
• Provide evidence from literature in support of solution / suggestions and recommendations
