Research on Primate Anthropology Assignment | Get Paper Help
Part of being an anthropologist requires researching and understanding topics in an in-depth manner. In order to achieve this standard, you will be required to research and write a 5-page paper on a primate species of your choice. Make sure that you are researching an individual species, not a group of primates (e.g. the Golden Lion Tamarin, Leontopithecus rosalia; not “Tamarins” as a group).
This paper will be a comprehensive discussion of a particular primate, detailing the animal’s evolutionary position in the order primates, life history, unique anatomical features, among other details as laid out below.
Requirements:
Required Research Topics
For the primate of your choice, you will need to provide at minimum the following bolded information (with examples below the bolded information):
Evolutionary information
What is their taxonomic designation (i.e. genus and species)?
Where do they fit in the order Primates? What characteristics allow us to know their place in the order Primates?
What are the unique anatomical characteristics of this species that differentiates them from other primates?
Ecological information
What kind of environment does this primate live in?
How does this primate contribute to the ecology that it lives in (i.e. is it a pollinator, does it spread fruit seeds in its dung, does it eat pests, etc.)?
Social information
Offer a detailed description of the social system they live in.
How does this social system affect their behavior?
Are these animals sexually dimorphic? Why are they sexually dimorphic? Describe the differences between males and females.
Behavioral information
What does this animal eat? Describe any special adaptations that allow them to eat this food.
Do these primates engage in any unique behavior that is not found in other primates? If so, why do they engage in this behavior?
Conservation Status
What is the conservation status of this primate? (Use the IUCN Red List database to find this)
How many individuals of this species are still present in the wild?
What efforts are being performed to help maintain this species’ habitat or to otherwise help this species survive?
Minimum Number of Scholarly Sources:
In order to ensure that you have accurate information, I am requiring that you acquire your information from at least 5 scholarly sources. Acceptable scholarly sources will be peer-reviewed journal articles and books, or other sources at the professor’s discretion (i.e. ask me before you cite them). Websites and blogs are not scholarly sources, although they may lead to scholarly sources.
In order to find scholarly sources, you will need to utilize Delta’s Library website, as well as the websites of nearby public libraries. If you are having problems finding scholarly sources, please come see me.
Minimum Page Length/Format:
The minimum length is 5 pages of text (not including bibliography/cover page). I would like the text double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial font with 1” margins all around.
For each aspect of this paper, I am expecting you to provide original work. Do not excessively use quotations, as I’m interested in your interpretation and understanding of the information.
Citation Style:
This paper requires both a bibliography page as well as in-text citations. You must provide the following information in your bibliographic citations:
For a Journal:
Author’s Name (in alphabetical order by last name), Date of Publication, Article Name, Journal Name, Journal Number, Page number(s).
Example:
Parra, EJ. 2007. Human Pigmentation Variation: Evolution, Genetic Basis, and
Implications for Public Health. Yearbook of Physical Anthropology 50:85-105.
For a Book:
Author’s Name (in alphabetical order by last name), Date of Publication, Book Name, City Published in, Publisher.
Example:
Jablonski NG. 2006. Skin: A Natural History. Berkeley: University of California Press.
In-Text Citation
Any sentence which quotes, paraphrases, or otherwise expresses an idea that is not your own requires an in-text citation. This may be formatted in many ways, but the simplest is the author’s name and year of publication.
Example:
Lightly pigmented skin appears to be a selective compromise between vitamin D production and prevention of folate photolysis (Jablonski and Chaplin, 2000).
