Explain why you chose these two.”

“The two learning methods that I am going to use in my practicum project are: 1) Simulation based learning (Battista, 2017; Khalaila, 2014), and 2) self-reflection (Mlinar Reljić, Pajnkihar, & Fekonja, 2019). I will be using simulation-based learning to encourage students to analyze how they would react to situations involving death, as well as other emotionally traumatic situations. While simulation based learning can be engaging for adult learners, it also has been shown to help didactic content “stick” better than more traditional methods of learning (Battista, 2017; Khalaila, 2014). We will simulate conversations with bereaved family members, as well as with patients who are dying, and help students to see how they can best therapeutically communicate with those populations. Additionally, I will be using self-reflection activities that encourage students to reflect on their own reactions and values when it comes to end of life care. The goal with the self-reflection activities is the get students to see how their own values might impact the ways they care for patients who have similar, and different values around death and dying.
