5. Secondary Source Assignment 1The goal of this assignment is help you locate credible textual secondary sources. While there are many potential sources you might use for any given assignment, not all sources are equally credible, or equally helpful. How can you evaluate whether or not a source you ve found is a good one to support the writing project you re working on? What makes the author of the source someone you can trust on the subject they are writing about? This assignment will provide you with tools to help you make these decisions. Here in the Project 1 process cycle, we ask you to do this critical thinking about secondary sources *before* the rough draft is due. In the Project 2 process cycle, we ll ask you to do this critical thinking and research *after* the rough draft is due. There are advantages to both approaches; find out at which stage of the writing process secondary source research maximizes your own writing success. First, it is recommended that you review the Evaluating Sources: Criteria document attached here. It will help you think critically about the secondary sources you find. Second, you should visit the Explore Research Resources link (found as #4 under the Writing and Research Process module) and complete the steps found there (watch the videos and complete the tutorials). Next, use the resources within ASU s library databases to search for reliable and meaningful secondary sources for your project. When you have located and read at least two sources you think will help you complete Project 1, do the following: Now that have a better sense of the context for these two sources, write 1-2 paragraphs about each source, explaining why you ve selected it as a credible textual source for Project 1 and how it will help you be successful in Project 1. Be thorough and specific: convince readers that this source will truly be helpful to your Project 1 work and that it wasn t just one of the first sources you happened to find. Show evidence you ve actually read the source in its entirety. Make sure to discuss the credibility of the author and of the location where this source was published.Provide a complete APA citation for each of the two sources; include this information at the end of your written paragraphs.Upload your cohesive written paragraphs and APA citations in this Assignment link.
