AFTER COMPLETING THE INITIAL POST, PLEASE ALSO RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING TWO STUDENTS REGARDING THE SAME TOPIC!

STUDENT ONE:

I learned so many things throughout this course from the assignments as well as from my peers through discussion posts. I haven’t completely decided where I want my future career with this degree to take me, but I have always known it will be with young children. This course has definitely given me tons of information pertaining to this field. The topic that stuck with me the most was the module on childhood phobias. When I think of phobias, what comes to mind are the typical phobias like claustrophobia or arachnophobia but I had never really considered the phobia of socialization like the children we learned about during that module. It opened my eyes to another side of childhood that does exist. It presented a new problem to me that I may face throughout my career. I have heavily considered therapy of some sort and if I decide to go down that path, these serious phobias may be something I would encounter and need to work on with my own clients. The module gave some options for therapy and working through the phobias that children may face so that is something I could take with me into my future career. I will also be able to recognize some of the issues pertaining to the phobias that are a little more small scale that may normally get missed or contributed to something other than a serious phobia. I’m excited to take this knowledge and apply it to a career with children in my future.

STUDENT TWO:

As we all come to the close of another term, we are that much closer to our end goals! The most valuable information that I took away from this course was the information and knowledge I gained from conducting our final products. I did my “grant proposal” on bully prevention and incorporating social emotional learning into all classrooms. Throughout my research I found that SEL not only is extremely beneficial with children and adolescents, but it is also beneficial for adults. Therefore, this is something that can be incorporated in any career setting regardless of career path! “Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions” (The casel guide, n.d.).
